Thanks for tapping in to The Life N Times Network !

Charles Oliveira was in command from the start and never gave Max Holloway room to turn it into his kind of fight. On The Fight 76, I break down the BMF title main event, the rest of the UFC 326 main card, and which performances actually changed something moving forward.

Opening And BMF Card Setup

SPEAKER_00

It's Leighton LA. The fight, episode 76, UFC 326. Let's get into it. The BMF main card. Listen, we kick it off with Gregory Rodriguez getting a rerun, a run back, a rematch with Bruno. Gets a first round KO. Listen, one and done. That's somebody's son. Listen. Gregory Rodriguez, bro. What a redemption story. What a comeback. What a way to line up the shot. What a way to be patient. What a way to get past demons because he did lose to this man. His opponent was full of confidence. And he was coming at him like he didn't give a fuck about what he had to offer back when he should have been paying attention. Shout out to Gregory Rodriguez. The middleweight division's on fire. I can't wait to see where he goes next. Drew Dober versus Michael Johnson. Listen, Michael Johnson is a you know a great fighter, legendary fighter in the UFC. Did a lot of work of vet. But when it came to upping the level or maintaining, it's just something about Michael Johnson. He can't do it. I didn't bet for him. I bet against him. I had Drew Dober. I was right on this UFC card the entire card. I had a parlay for Gregory, Drew Dober, Raw, Powell, and Charles. I know fighting. I know MMA. If you want to bet the right way, come over here. I only put 15 now. If you know how bets go, you know I cleared. I clear. It's go-go-go-green. Just like Drew Dober knocking on Michael Mike Michael Johnson in the second round. You can't you can't change what a fighter is. It takes so much to change what a fighter can become. And Michael Johnson's 40 years old. Drew Dober is his. And I'm going to be a critic about this. This is the BMF main card. Bad as motherfuckers. We need the KO trend to keep going. This is when the KO trend stops. Raw completely dominated Rob Farm. I'm not going to take that away from him. But he did not land any damage, nor get a submission. And I'm starting to think it doesn't matter how high level your jujitsu is. If an MMA fighter is skilled enough and understands the cage enough, you won't be able to submit him, no matter the gap. We'll see and talk about that at the highest levels later on in this card. But that's how Raoul Ross has got the W. He smothered Rob Font, took no damage, and is ready to go for his next fight. With him, I would say be active, be off in because he's a grappler. So he doesn't take much damage. And if he does what he's supposed to do, he needs to start getting some more subs. It just needs to be more aggressive if we're going to have guys on the ground for over 10 minutes. Now, we got Kyle versus RDR. RDR has been taking a lot of fights, a lot of weight cuts, and fighting top competition over and over and over again. In his last fight, he got stopped. I feel like he was dealing with those demons. I felt like he felt those shadows in the ring. I felt like he didn't press enough for that. And I also feel like Kyle was also beatable. And it wasn't a 30 to 27. It was the 29 to 28. We got to stop making the card so wide. I get it. We want him to win. I get it. He's part of the fighting nerds. I get it bigger and better as far as marketing. But please, let's just let's just be respectful in these uh these rulings and these judgments because Cal definitely lost the round. Anyway, RDR takes the loss. Cal gets the UD. Middleweight fight. Him versus Gregory Rodriguez book it. Anyway, we get to Charles Oliveira versus Max Holloway. This is the BMF title match. This is the second time Max Holloway was defending the belt. He lost it to Charles 50-45. Lots of ground control, not a lot of ground work. There wasn't a lot of ground in pound. There was a lot of sub-attempts, but not finishes. He didn't finish any sub. He put him in danger the entire fight. We have to respect him for that. And I understand it's MMA. But this is the BMF title. The reputation in the types of fights that we are accustomed to as fans. When we see BMF, we say worth the pay-per-view. If we see BMF, we say worth the pay-per-view. Listen to me, a casual fan is not going to appreciate Charles Oliveira, and I'm not a casual fan, and I didn't appreciate it either. It is 20 plus minutes. He needs to be doing way more ground and pound. We saw the elbows. He didn't continue to do that. He could have done that all fight. He could have just elbowed him into a ground and pound TKO victory. He didn't do that either. You have the skill set. You didn't jump on it. Maybe you wanted him to be okay. I understand you're a great man. You want to take pictures with your opponents. You believe it's grace and honor in combat. And I respect that. But we are fans. It's not about honor, it's about entertainment. Please don't forget that Charles Oliveira is coming off of a sub on Gamrot. And I thought he was going to be coming off of another sub off Max Holloway. Let's shout out to Max Holloway. He survived 20 plus minutes with a fourth degree black belt trying to choke him and having the best positions to choke him. And he didn't choke him for five rounds. Shout out Max Holloway. We need to tighten the rules on BMF belts and fights and contention. I feel like the UC should buy DBX, you know, the organization run by Mike Perry and John Jones that mixes boxing, hit not no kicks, but you got elbows and you can do ground and pound if the per the opponent goes down. So I just want us to apply what we should in these environments. You know, there's ways to make the BMF fight known for, hey, you gotta do this, hey, you gotta do this. There was a lot of time where Max stalled enough to be stood back up, and Charles is working, but not working towards anything. There has to be some type of clock that starts. As soon as you get someone on the ground, if you are not threatening, threatening uh uh or advancing position or doing damage, you got 30 seconds to do that as soon as you hit the ground. I think the clock should start there, and then as you progress, it restarts. So if you get somebody down, you get one punch off, it restarts right off the second punch. So it never goes away unless you're sitting there holding, holding the arm, trying to stop a sub. The sub's here and you're stuck. Like there's a lot of times where people are just almost subbed for two, three rounds of almost being subbed, and that's the most unentertaining part of MMA. And when MMA fighters are critiquing everything boxing is doing, saying boxing is boring and other combat sports are boring or not real fights, and then we get to the BMF fight, and we see this. You're gonna get it back. The fight, episode 76. Shout out to everybody that fought that night. Can't wait to see what Max and Charles do next. I'm sure Charles is next in line versus whoever fights Ilya Topora or Justin Gagey, they're both at the UFC White House card. We will see who wins that, and then Armand is waiting in the wings, and then it's Charles. So that division is on fire. I'll be watching, I'll be betting. And if you want to get to your best bets, not just bets, the best bets, come here. We cleaned up last weekend, and I want to spread the wealth, not hide it. Happen in it.
