Speaker 1:

Hello, welcome to this bonus episode of the BJ Show Footy Show, aussie Footy Show, and I'm your host. Bj and Aidan will share the final game, so let's get it on the way. So I'm going to start off, then aiden will finish it off, and thank you so much, aiden, to you know the situation of the 2025 puny season. We've done our own versions and I think it's really hit amazing. We're almost at 250 episodes, like something that it's amazing and I'm going to share my thoughts now. Aiden has done his and it's really like it was all one way and I don't know what to say like if the la crows and jalon cuts did not make the finals. I will gone for God Cruz during the final series and that's why, as he said, but I'm going to go for Adelaide Cruz. That's who I'll go for, but it's a bit, you know, something that isn't a bit better. Very much the same score, but two points more. So overall, 8-10. But we do have the final score here 23-15, 153, defeated 8-10, 58. So a 95 point victory the biggest margin victory for the Gold Coast Suns in record, I believe, and I'm going to go through the final series. This is the idea of who thinks I should win and why. Of that, just one or two sentences.

Speaker 1:

So, look, I think this was going to be an Essendon like, not victory. You know I thought they would be a bit better but it was all over for the time. You know, essendon just wanted to give up and just not play. But all due respect, you know, overall they finished 15th on the ladder so they went down once again and one of the really the third worst percentage. They were in the mid-70s, essendon, and they got belted Like they just didn't want to be there. But they gave it a crack. I think they gave it all, I think they tried their best and, all with respect, you know, I think Gold Coast won it more and that painful loss against Port very emotional in Adelaide, adelaide, I think it was 40,000 plus. You know Port Adelaide want to finish it strong and I really think they did it perfectly. Overall, gold Coast, they won it, they got the pass and I think they learned their mistakes. You know Essendon will give it all, they'll give it a crack, but I really think that. You know I thought it should be a close game but Gold Coast really didn't let Essendon to do that and all due respect for that. But congratulations to Gold Coast. This is it.

Speaker 1:

You're going to go to Perth and I'll share why and who I should win, and it's going to be a bit painful for saying that word, but I'll go quarter by quarter, very, very streaming quick. You know, seven goals to one. Then it was two goals each. So, really, essendon, you know they can be better and put the margin back to a 36 points. So I thought it was going to be well, this is going to be an interesting contest. It was six goals five to two goals two, and then another well, eight straight it's incredible to three goals, four. So Essendon scored five goals, six, two incredible 14 goals, five. So they won the game at halftime, like I said, at quarter time overall. And I really think that Essendon, go to to off-season, enjoy, get some talent and see you in 2026. So I do apologize.

Speaker 1:

Well, where's the crowd attendance overall for this game, which I will pick up and grab? So, for this game, 16,768 pack this stadium for the final game, which is a decent effort. I'm not too sure what's the average. It is overall. So today I'm going to be doing a roughly of my position and really, overall, the attendance for the most popular grounds for this year, such as the MCG Marble Stadium, octa Stadium, scg, the Gutter GMHBA Stadium in Geelong, people's First Stadium and the LA Oval most terms. So I really think stay tuned for that because that's going to be interesting, like this year. What's the average each night from last year? Not very much of last year, but all from during the punishment season and how much it's improved and much of overall. So well done to Gold Coast playing a massive win on Wednesday night, football Witch, which I would like to share right now. Stay tuned. Also.

Speaker 1:

The pre-season basketball for the NBL Blitz, as they're known for, before the NBL 26 season starts from the weekend of the end of September. I know it's a bit crazy having the AFL Grand Final and NBL at the same time. It's a bit. I personally advise they need to do it one week later because they should not flash AFL and NBL opener on the one night from during the day into the evening and I think that's not right. In my advice they may have to do it on a like a Thursday or Friday. So it's not really all. Even this Sunday, the 28th of September, which is LA Food City's home game, which is all sold out.

Speaker 1:

I want to be a member. I really want to be a member this year and I'm really so bummed and told it's all sold out. So I'm checking that out. But without any doubt I'm going to end this part as making this short as possible. I am going to give look, there's so many players this year and look, he doesn't get a lot of attention but a player has dominated at the goals and really. But it's so hard to pick, really hard to pick. But I'm going to give it to Ben Keane the reason for this. It's not much, but it's eight disposals, 86 A for fan city. The seven goals won. That really accuracy, his best game for his career, including those six months. He had all 100%. In the fourth half he included eight score involvements, which is include you think of it doubling it, but it's not One extra score involvement, so total, that was his scoring. So well done to Ben King on that 220, 227 Aval meters game. So well done to the Gold Coast Edson. A heads up. I know the season. It's not what you wanted this year. I thought there was going to be something exciting this year and all for Dole, go to the offseason, pick up some talent. We know that you can do it. I have trust in you. And for my uncle if he's listening to this, believe me or not he's a hard-on Essence supporter and I know he will love some great talent coming through the club in 2026. He's a member and he is a proud. He supports, he loves, enjoys the Crows as well, but his number one is the Essendon Bombers, as usual, as respectful for that. So, anyway, I'm going to end it now. Thank you so much as well, aiden. I'll let you take it away with your final thought for the last game, for round 24. Here we go.

Speaker 2:

Take it away, aiden okay, now let's get straight into the Gorko Sons versus Essendon, the rescheduled catch-up game from opening round to close out the 2025 AFL season. And this one was a very, very, very one-sided affair. Suns winning this one 23-15, 153, essendon 8-10, 58. This is a statement win from Gold Coast. This is a team with intent. This is a team that is showing that, okay, this is their first finals as a club, but they're not scared, they're not afraid of it. They don't know that this is their first finals as a club, but they're not scared, they're not afraid of it. They don't know that this is the performance they've got to put up. Obviously, the other teams are going to be a lot stronger than Essendon are, but they need to go in with this mindset of having to win, to advance every week, because having to come into that second four, that is how you've got to play your footy. There is no more losing if you're in that second four. You have to be able to get across the line each week. You know and this was essentially another elimination final before the elimination final for Gold Coast, so they handled Essendon quite comfortably in the end as well. Just a very, very strong start all over the place seven goal four in the first quarter. Then in the back half of the game they went from nine goals to a half time to 23 goals. They kicked a six in the third. They kicked an eight in the final quarter. So 14 goals in the second half for Gold Coast. You really just bring an end to the misery for Essendon, who probably do have to go into a full scale, you know, rebuild mode.

Speaker 2:

I think that flirting with being a top eight side for them has kind of come on second list. They can build a big start next year, like they did last year before they fell away. But it's just one of those things where I think their plan or whoever they were bringing in hasn't worked out for them. They need to adjust and make the moves. They need to either reset or restart, because some of the pieces for me, even when they're healthy, they're just not clicking and that's what's affecting them come the end of the day. So unfortunately for Essendon you are going to take this loss by 95 to the Suns. But next year you can have another shot. Everyone outside of the top eight done. Start back at zero, start back at 2026. The top eight teams will play on for next week we go into finals. That is where the money is and it is great to see the Gold Coast Suns in that top 8 for the first time in the history of their club.

Speaker 2:

We'll go to my player of the game for this one. I'm going to give it to Noah Anderson from Gold Coast. 114 AFL Fantasy, 3 goals, 34 touches, 19 kicks, 15 handballs, 3 marks for Noah Anderson to close out the minor rounds and set himself up with some great form heading into finals. So that is my wrap for Edgerton and Gold Coast this season, as a home and away season is done, we are going to be covering finals here on the show, so I look forward to that as it rolls on. Footy rolling into September is always a great feeling. Until then, I will see you soon, thank you.

Amazing this podcast is as we reach into our third year. Our third well, amazing, bigger than ever the BJ's 2025, bj Show Awards. We don't know who our winners is, but I'll let you know that the topics are exactly the same, but we're absolutely adding the BJ Show 40 to our top three and, as well, the two Australians. We're adding an extra second Australian team. As there's so many talent in the AFL, we cannot add the first one it's so painful to know and then to the second team.
