Finals Fever: SA SANFL Week 1 Showdowns
Football finals fever has hit South Australia! The SANFL Finals Series has kicked off across all divisions, bringing the excitement and intensity that only finals football can deliver.
Starting with the Under-16s, Central District has already secured their grand final berth after defeating West Adelaide in challenging wet conditions at Elizabeth Oval. The young Bulldogs showed tremendous skill and composure, particularly when West Adelaide threatened in the third quarter. Meanwhile, North Adelaide and South Adelaide will battle it out for the remaining grand final spot.
The action continues with the Under-18s competition featuring a doubleheader at Thomas Farms Oval. Sturt appears poised to claim a direct path to the grand final when they face West Adelaide, while Central District should overcome Woodville-West Torrens in what promises to be a fascinating elimination final. These matches showcase tomorrow's stars today, with several players already on AFL clubs' radars.
Beyond the mainstream competitions, the SANFL Inclusive League deserves special recognition. This eight-team competition provides football opportunities for people with disabilities and has grown significantly in recent years. The upcoming grand final between Kenilworth and Alverstone Kilburn Crows represents what sport is truly about – community, participation, and the joy of competition regardless of ability level.
In the reserves and League competitions, traditional powerhouses like Glenelg, Norwood, and Central District feature prominently, but it's the Adelaide Crows reserves who are writing the most remarkable story. After finishing last in 2024, they've surged to a potential grand final appearance in 2025 – a testament to their improved development program and player commitment.
Football in South Australia continues to thrive at all levels, from juniors to seniors, mainstream to inclusive competitions. Follow along as we track every division's journey toward premiership glory, and don't miss our next episode where we'll reveal the SA NFL Inclusive League grand finalists and provide comprehensive coverage of week two finals action!
Hello everyone and welcome back to another. Well, the BJ Sports Extra. Sa NFL Finals, week 1. Let's get on with the show. So welcome. All this is it.
Speaker 1:Finals have hit the SA NFL from under-16s, under-18s to as reserved and then the big league. So we do start with under-16s. So the feature was all out already. So Friday, the 29th of August, and we had the Central District taking on West Adelaide. Now in my predictions there I think I'd chosen that I will go with, I think, central District to win this game. Now I will share the result as well in this game. So Central District is aiming to claim a grand final spot and they did. They feed a low scoring game quite wet as well. So 68, 44 defeated, 3, 16, 34. So west adelaide, my goodness, they had the biggest opportunity to actually win this game and they cost themselves in the third quarter. This game was played down at Ette's Communion in Oval, which is in Elizabeth, known and formalised Elizabeth Oval. So well done. Central District on the 16th will make spot in the grand final with West Adelaide. We're holding their guns as North Adelaide, south Adelaide go into an interlaken final and I think South Adelaide will take the win. This is down at North Adelaide. So if you're down in that area around 10.30 in Adelaide, south Australia, go and support your team, because it's really important to support the juniors as well. The seniors I will also in this series of today's show. In this episode I will also include the inclusive, as that is also important. So congratulations to Central District. Under-16s are climbing with West Adelaide waiting to take on North Adelaide or South Adelaide or North or South, wherever you prefer.
Speaker 1:Under-16s. Here we go and all playing wall games by a back-to-back doubleheader. And Sturt and West Adelaide the winner goes in the grand final. And Central District and Woodsville, west Torrens Eagles all playing at Thomas Farnes Oval. If you're in the area from 11am going to point down the A-teams, this is going to be a cracking. The winner will go into the GF grand final and a loser will play. The winner of Central District and Woodsville, west Tynes.
Speaker 1:Now who I'm going to go for pretty hard to choose and I think congratulations. I'm going with Sturt with this game. I may say West Alley, but this is that only oval and I think there's so much going on and I think Sturt to take make it into the grand final with West Alley and Central District for the final West-West, adelaide and Central District for the well and unfortunately Woodville-West Hines to be out. So West and Central go head-to-head for the pre-final. Now before we go into the main ones Glenelg Tigers in the reserves and Sturt, and it's the top five series, as they've done for so many years that they will be having that week off.
Speaker 1:Now before we get into these two final series, before I share these really ones, these games are played from 10.30 at Mugan Stadium. So I want to let you know that with South Adelaide and North Adelaide, the winner will take on Glendale Tigers for the reserves, despite in the big dance grand final, and with Woodsville, west Hines and Sturt don't lose in the second game and the winner will take on the loser. Second chance of South and North and the loser of Woodsville and Sturt are gone. So South Adelaide to win this game at South Adelaide they're very good and North Adelaide will take on Sturt Woodsville out of the competition. So before we make into a big decision of the big league and this is the one are we going to this game? They're both back-to-back games between Central and and Nord, and Glenelg and Adelaide and Stur, as I mentioned. Congratulations to them and Glenelg and the reserve, so I want to share you just for very briefly.
Speaker 1:So I've played under the SA in the field as well and called inclusive league. So Ken so Kenilworth versus Alverstone Kilburn Crows and I making the grand final all the best, and I can't wait to share this game. You know, really want to let you all know this is going to be a good game. It's wet football here in Adelaide. If you would like to know a little bit about the Inclusive League, it's a fantastic league for those who people with disabilities, who are interested to play a game of football. There is eight teams and it's expanded.
Speaker 1:Since I have joined in my fifth year this is my I have not missed out a finals appearance. This is my. I have not missed out a finals appearance. I've made every final series with four grand finals and one two. So it's something in my record of that we miss the 2024 grand final. It's more painful but it happens. It's life. But we do take on Atherton Reggings, which that'll be a challenge, so stay tuned. We'll share all that in our next podcast episode. So there's so much to share.
Speaker 1:So, since the BJ Show 2025 award show, with BJ, your host as well, aidan Berry on the side. Thank you for your support as usual. We've had the bowling league update. Aidan Berry on the side. Thank you for your support. As usual. We've had the bowling league update. We also have the AFL week one predictions that will be released out, so keep your eye out. It's including the SNFL X-Shack finals, week one, including the inclusive under-16s, under-18s reserves and now the league, and that's where we are.
Speaker 1:So I hope to get the win and tag on Kilburn. We'll let you all know where and where you can watch it, because even I don't make the grand final situation of that, I will still let you know how it all went Because it's really important. You know much. As I have not shared the inclusive all year, I will review how amazing the Kennewith Cooker Bars Football Club mean to me. What have I done behind the scenes and what's been my role on a Thursday evening at the football club, because it's really important. There's so many guests to come as well from the Blackwood Community Centre as well as the Kenwood Football Club Awards night. So stay tuned for all that.
Speaker 1:But getting back into end of show, making this nice and short, so I would like to congratulations to these four teams Central District Norbury Leagues, glenelg Tigers, allied Reserves and this double lose claiming top spot. So North will win. It's going to be could be a bit slippery out there, but I think these two had met in the National Final a few years ago, a few final coaches ago, and I think North has got better and better. During not giving up six goals down to win by like 10 points against. You know, put LA Map high side Reserves claimed to be last in 2024 and finishing sixth in 2025. It's an incredible achievement. It has happened and I'm going for Norwood that way.
Speaker 1:Really, glenelg Tigers, la Crows really can't go past the LA Crows reserves. It should be a good game and Glenelg Tigers and the Northern Legs go head-to-head with the mighty LA Crows and they'll lose the claim over the LA Crows, the claim to spot in the 2025 first time in history, sa NFL Hoops Plus Grand grand final. So that's it. That's my predictions, that's all for and that nets us early on, but I was only focused on week one. But just to give you all, that's only I've done with the sanfl so well. Thank you so much, as next week we'll let you all know who is playing in the SA NFL Inclusive 2025 APM Grand Final. I can't wait to share with you all, with the Host Plus, final Series between the league, the reserves, the under-18s and 16s as well as. That is what we are going to be sharing all over Overall. All right, right, you'll be awesome and stay tuned as well. That bonus 250 episode and that is actually achievement. It's coming soon. All right, big joe shows out. Bye, for now, peace.
