Hey, all, welcome to the footy final here on a wet sunny afternoon here at Canawa Football Club taking on Averston, the place that's brought in the big APM Inclusive Sandfall Grand Final. And today we'll start off with Ben Horne, known on, known on it. Mate, how are you feeling today and welcome?
Speaker 2:mate. Thanks, bj. It's good to be back on the show again. It's been a while feeling a bit nervous because you know it's finals footy. Anything can happen. But yeah, as you said before, it's a big, big contest for a spot in the grand final Against Kilburn next week. Yeah, so yeah.
Speaker 1:Look, it's pretty wet today and you know a big role in the Fence. And look, as this year, you have proven for yourself To perform really well. We have our up and downs during the season, but you have Stunned yourself Really well. So how have you reflected this season this year? But you have spent yourself really well. So how have you reflected this season this year?
Speaker 2:My reflection to this year. I guess it's just been a tough year for me, as you mentioned, because I have anger management issues so I get hot-headed in previous years. But the way I've overcome that and became a better footballer this year is just seeking help from, like you know, professionals out there, not getting sucked in, just putting the crowd behind me and just focusing on the footy, putting my body on the line and trying to get my team over the line for a victory Absolutely.
Speaker 1:And look, today is a big welcome, like I won the Legends at Canoa Football Club. And look, I'd really like to welcome this man. He's been on the sideline for so long, it's you know so. So I would like to. We'll do this at the World's Night as well, you, ben, because you know we'll not miss out. But Alex Lynn Linny, mate, welcome, mate, it's good to see you back on the footy field. How much you missed it. I missed it a lot and I'm glad to be back. So, just, you know, reflecting partly of missing football, how much you you know 100 games. Just reflect on, you know, and as well, you Ben, you're welcome to join as well. But 100 games, mate, you know what's been your best memory from now coming back, probably winning the two grand finals, absolutely, and kicking a snag at North Oval in the grand final. Oh, mate, look, you know, you put you. And the goal here at St Mary's before the quarter ended. Oh yeah, look, you know, you put you. And the goal here at St Mary's before the quarter ended.
Speaker 1:Oh yeah, mate, good memories, good memories. And look for you two now reaching 100 games for this football club. Yes, with, you know, many grand finals in your, you know so much and I only play like 69 games, so'm I'm getting to the hundred absolutely. And you know, you two have been so much of supporting this podcast and I much appreciate it. But you know averson today. You know another challenge and, yes, they've got some good players, but I think this year overall, I think we've, yes, we're pretty good in the wet against them and you know, we know how, you know the challenge they have. He's been here, not, but on the sideline and being that voice. So, big Bird, welcome mate, hello. So sideline, and you know being a big part of this team for so long.
Speaker 1:And you know, yes, disappointing, we won't switch on for last week, but we do miss your voice, mate, and I think how much let's come over this way, but how much you enjoy watching the fellas and myself have played this year 100, yeah. So what is your favorite? Like your favorite game that I just shared since you know, when you came, canada versus goodwood was it which goodwood, goodwood's home ground? Oh yeah, yeah. So your voice, so your voice really like, yes, you're loud and I think people have totally, you know, missed that and you know it's a wet, dry pitch this afternoon. How much you know how the fellas, how you know you're not playing on the sideline, but how much you're feeling the motion for today's game. A hundred percent, yep. So look, I'm pretty nervous and you can see the pitch is quite wet, really wet, nothing like when we played them last time.

You know what Coxie, the coach, has said you're welcome, you're part of the team. Yes, I thought so, but you know what you've come through in life, mate. It's like we're right there. You're sharing what we want to share. It's understand, but you know what you have done this year and what you have gone through. It's unbelievable and you know the fellas are like really pumped it up and, um, surely you will really, you know, pump it up. You know I can't wait, you know, for your voice to be on that sidelight and really you know exactly exactly you, big Bird, I really appreciate for your time and Lenny and Hornet and all those for this pre-game A much appreciate. Speaker 1:Hello, welcome back here at St Mary's Park. I've got to say what an epic, beautiful Recondition. A little bit of mystery, but, my goodness, this is it. I cannot, cannot believe it. Kenworth and Kilburn At the Grand Final For the 2025 APM Grand Final. We'll let you all know where and what time and how. You can stream it wherever you are, but I cannot believe. This is the fourth appeal out of five years. I've appealed in a grand final against Kilburn. Then it just changed, so this could be three grand apprenticeships in four years, ken Kenworth make that happen. I would like to congratulate Atherston on how much achievements they will unfortunately not going back to back to back, but knew they were going to be one of the favourites to win it again. The final score here is 7-7, 49, defeat of 2-3-15. So Kenworth has absolutely, really put on an absolute clinic, and thank you to Kenworth, the supporter base of which. There was maybe quite a bit more crowd back here at Kenworth, but next week is huge. You know the whole club is right behind.

I've always liked to be nicknamed as Big Bird Junior. I don't know, I'm not the second loudest on the team at times of times, especially game day. Speaker 1:So well, it's on to claim another grand final and you may have heard in the final score I will share that again 7 7, 49 to 3 15. It was an absolutely 34 point victory. The last time we played at festoon was mid, early in the year and unfortunately we just were just a slightly stronger outfit. We went out to their oval and they took care of us really comfortable and then it was all really we just took care of them in great spirit in a huge way. So the last time we played at Kenilworth was quite wet and we knew how good they were. They were streamy, streamy. You know low-scoring football and we should have gone a lot better in our score. So this was the last time we played them was two behinds, one goal, then we kicked that one goal. Two to nothing. They kicked the one goal still. Then we kicked two goals free to one goal and there was another six behind, six minus. So this time we met them in the final series and this is the second time we seriously have played them in the finals and a spot in the grand final.
Speaker 1:I would like to congratulations to Atherston, even been plenty years in 2024, and unfortunately not in 2025. But heads up, you are still a good team and we know how good you are. You know you're putting a good side all over the park. We knew your challenge. We knew the team you're versus in Kenneworth would challenge. We all knew you were going to be challenged and we have so much respect. So all the best, all the best in the off season, no matter what happens. I hope you can come out and support the grand final as we much can enjoy it. I'm going to share with you this game and how much. Now I've got a few disposals and congratulations to all the winners, the top five today, and I want to share your cutting down each quarter and it honors me that we knew we had the best mindset.
Speaker 1:Coming in and having those three guests on the show really lift, really changed so much. And having Big Bird in the you know, he really did lift us so much. He was part of the crowd, he was part of the song and I'm honoured to that. But 1-2, 8-1 goal straight. Then it was two goals free to make it one goal free to one goal one. So it was a few points in it. Very low scoring. It was low scoring and we knew that though in the game, but it was the third quarter set us up amazing and it was three goals, three to one point, and again two goals one to one point. So the second half we won five goals, four to two behind. So how much they know, importantly, what what it's like and congratulations, like making to go to Goodwood to defeat at Goodwood. Then come to, you know, kenilworth, that's great. When we really got into that late in that first quarter, we really knew how important the first goal came under and that was it. So, like I said, congratulations to to candleworth taking claiming to make into the 2025 apm grand final. And now, like I said, I've been playing for footy for five years in 69 games and I've finally made my fourth appearance grand final. So it's going to be a good game. It's going to be a good game, it's going to be a good challenge for both sides and all the best for the winner. And stay tuned because we've got a big, you know, a massive week coming up and now, until seven days later, I'm going to wrap it up. This is it. It's a bit of emotional, you know, making it to the grand finals, but it's happy tears.
