Welcome to Podcasting for solopreneurs and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in five minutes or less. Today's question is is there a good enough free hosting platform? This question comes from an anonymous listener. Hey there, thanks so much for being a fan of the show. And they go on to say that they were going to revive their podcast, but see that buzzsprout is now dol a month and they're wondering if there are any other good enough simple alternatives for a lower price point or that are free. And so first I just want to start by clarifying because I did do an episode relatively recently that stated that Buzzsprout was $12 a month. And while hopefully you know that the caveat is the pricing is whatever it is at the time I'm recording the episode and not necessarily current to when you are listening to it, I actually did get this wrong and that is because buzzsprout did not increase the pricing for current customers. And so all of my students and I are still paying that $12 a month that I quoted in a previous episode. And so I just have to say shout out to buzzsprout for doing that.

I think that's super awesome that they grandfathered the their current clients into the old pricing and didn't give us an increase. That is really, really awesome customer service in my opinion. But anyway, yes, for new people signing up it is now at the time of this recording, $19 a month. And so in terms of other hosting options, buzzsprout is absolutely hands down my favorite. And you can go to thepodcastteacher.com buzzsprout to save $20 when you sign up for your account and so it is still my number one recommendation. However, if that's a stretch for the budget right now, there are alternative options out there. RSS.com, redCircle and Spotify for creators are a few free hosting platforms that I am aware of. I don't have any recent personal experience with any of them to give you an in depth review.

However, I can say that most free media hosts typically don't provide great customer service and their stats are usually not very robust. This is the experience that I personally had the last time I was in one of these free services. There are a ton of podcast hosting platforms out there in addition to buzzsprout. One of my other favorites is Captivate, but the pricing is about the same there. There's also Libsyn and Blubrry and there are I could go on for 20 minutes and list all of the hosting platforms, so there are lots of options. It really just comes down to what is, quote unquote good enough for you. Are you willing to deal with people, potentially poor customer service, or a lack of analytics for your podcast in exchange for getting it for free? For some people, the answer to that might be yes, and for others the answer might be no. So take a look and see what is the best fit for you right now.

But there are plenty of options out there. If you have a podcasting question, click the Send me your question link in the episode description and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode. Until next time, happy podcasting.
