Welcome to Podcasting for solopreneurs and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in five minutes or less. Before we get into today's question, I do just want to put out a call for more questions. I am running out of questions from you all specifically and while of course there are lots of questions on the Internet that I can cover on, I would love to answer anything that you are wondering. So if you have any questions at all about podcasting, please feel free to use that send me your question link in the episode description and send them to me. I will answer them here on the podcast. Please be aware that if you do send a question that way that I cannot respond to you. That is a technical limitation of the feature of the software. It simply sends me the message and it doesn't allow me to respond to it.

So if you send in a question, I will absolutely answer it here on the podcast on FAQ Fridays, but I cannot respond to you directly. So just be aware of that. All right, so getting into it, today's question is one that I pulled from a Reddit thread about podcasting and the question is will buzzsprout edit my podcast from for me or do I have to edit it before I put it into buzzsprout? And this is a great question because a lot of folks are confused about what are the pieces that you need in order to create a podcast. And so buzzsprout is a hosting platform. It is where your podcast lives on the Internet. So it's kind of like the shell, the container. It does not edit your podcast for you, although it does have a feature that you can pay extra for. It's optional called Magic Mastering, which enhances the sound quality of your files.

So it doesn't cut out your ums and ahs, but it can enhance your sound quality. But basically your hosting platform is where your podcast lives on the Internet. And then it also pushes your podcast out to various places where people can listen. Places like Apple, Spotify, Overcast, etc. And so you need a hosting platform in order to have a podcast. You also need some kind of recording and editing software. Usually you can do both of those things in the same one, and some of the options out there for recording and editing are Audacity, Descript, Riverside fm, Adobe Audition, Reaper. I could go on and on and list a billion different ones, but you need some kind of software to record and edit your content.

Once you have a recorded and edited file, then you are going to put it into your hosting platform like buzzsprout and they will distribute it to places like Apple and Spotify. So hopefully that clarifies the process a little bit about which podcast tools do which tasks and which ones you need. I am a huge fan of buzzsprout as your hosting platform and I am a proud partner for them. My partner link is thepodcastteacher.com buzzsprout and if you sign up using my link, that will give you a $20 credit. If you have a podcasting question, click the Send me your question link in the episode description and I'll answer it in an upcoming episode. Until next time, happy podcasting.
