Welcome to Podcasting for Solopreneurs and FAQ Friday, where I answer a podcasting question in 5 minutes or less. Today's question is, how do I make my links clickable in my show notes? This question comes from Rhonda, host of the Forget People Pleasing podcast. Hey Rhonda, thanks so much for listening. Rhonda is wondering how to make the links in her show notes clickable so that listeners can easily visit the resources that she mentions in her episodes. This is actually a tricky question because it's not just a simple technical feature. Not all podcast players treat links the same way. So some players make links clickable, Some do not, and some only make them clickable under certain conditions. So for example, Apple Podcasts makes links clickable for people who are subscribed to the show, but not for listeners who are discovering your podcast and they haven't subscribed yet.

So if your show notes only say something like click here, those people who are not subscribed won't actually see a clickable link, even if you've set it up that way on the backend. That means that the text in your show notes should always include the full link itself. So instead of writing something like, "Click here to get my podcast roadmap," it's much better to write something like, "Go to thepodcastteacher.com/roadmap" to download the roadmap. That way, even if the link is not technically clickable for someone, they can still see the URL and they can either copy and paste or they can just type it in themselves. In most podcast hosting platforms, the process to make a link works just like it does in other programs that you're probably already familiar with. You simply highlight the text that you want to link and then look for the little link icon in the formatting toolbar. And then you'll add your link that way. But make sure that when you're adding any links that they begin with HTTPS, not just HTTP.

Spotify in particular only displays links that start with HTTPS. So if you accidentally leave off the S, the link may not show up at all for your listeners on that platform. Shout out to Steve from the Podcast Editor Academy for sharing this tip with me.
