It's Wednesday, Las Vegas. Here's what you need to know from the Las Vegas Sun. We begin in Nye County, where a major environmental warning has been issued. The conservation group, American Rivers, has placed the Amagrosa River on its list of America's most endangered rivers. The threats stems from proposed mining projects near the Ash Meadows National Wild Refuge. While a temporary halt on new claims is in place, its expiration date is fast approaching. Conservationists fear that renewed exploration could disrupt the fragile groundwater systems to sustain the delicate ecosystem. In healthcare news, Sunrise Hospital Medical Center has been designated a level one trauma center by the state. This is the highest possible level of trauma care. Hospital officials say the designation reflects a commitment to medical excellence and ensures that the most critical patients in Nevada have access to their top-tier life-saving resources. In other news, the American Postal Workers Union is fighting back against skepticism surrounding mail ballots. The 200,000 member union is launching a national television campaign to promote the security and convenience of voting by mail. The ads featuring everyday citizens like farmers and flight attendants will debut in Ohio, honoring the state where Civil War soldiers cast the first mail ballots in 1864. Of course, Nevada, 70% of voters vote by mail, and we're one of 12 states being eyed by the Trump administration because we accept ballots as long as they've been mailed before election day. And finally, on the local tech scene, a Las Vegas-based company, Nieto, has raised nearly$25 million and a new growth capital round. Founded in 2018, the brand sells products outside of Amazon's ecosystem. The new funding will support AI's expansion and opening of new operation centers right here in Las Vegas.
