It's Wednesday Las Vegas. Here are your top stories from the Las Vegas Sun. The Vegas Golden Knights are off to a strong start in the Stanley Cup finals. Vegas defeated the Carolina Hurricanes 5-4 in game one last night in a high-scoring back and forth matchup. The key takeaway: the Knights were able to pick apart a Carolina defense and goaltending tandem that have been nearly untouchable all postseason. Game two is Tuesday. In education news, the Clark County School District is weighing a major shift in how it handles student transportation. A new efficiency study recommends moving to an opt-in busing system, meaning only families who request a bus seat would be counted when designing routes. Right now, CCSD builds routes around all eligible riders, leaving many seats empty. The change is one of six cost-cutting measures up for school board review today that could save the district up to $79 million annually. A national story with some local relevance? Hundreds of ICE detainees across at least 33 states are alleging in federal lawsuits that immigration detention facilities are failing to provide adequate medical care. Accounts include a man who pulled out his own tooth due to untreated pain, a mother hospitalized after being denied blood pressure medicine, and a man who developed a severe bacterial infection after missing a scheduled doctor's appointment. And finally, the Southern Nevada Health District has released its five-year community health improvement plan. The district's long-term priorities include expanding healthcare access, addressing chronic disease, reducing substance use, and securing stable public health funding. That's your briefing for today.
