Happy Monday, Las Vegas. Here's what's making news in the Las Vegas Sun. Election day is Tuesday. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at dozens of locations throughout the valley. We've got a complete listing on Lasvegasun.com. Make sure you know where to go to vote. And remember, if you're in line before 7 p.m., you will get the vote no matter how long the wait. All polling stations also have drop boxes for mail ballots. There's one race to watch closely. It's in northern Nevada. Nevada Republicans are choosing between a Trumped-back candidate and a more experienced challenger to replace Congressman Mark Amade. Political watchers say the outcome could signal just how much sway the president still holds over his party heading into the back half of his final term. Democrats say they'll make a run at a seat despite the long odds. Shifting gears to sports, the A's are in town. We're getting our first look at the incoming MLB franchise this week with a three-game series against the Milwaukee Brewers at Las Vegas ballpark starting today. Three more games follow this weekend against the Colorado Rockies. The A's, of course, officially move here in 2028. And a new report today: Nevada ranks 46th out of 50 states in this year's Kids Count report, scoring near the bottom in economic well-being, education, health, family, and community. The Anne E. Casey Foundation report does note recent boosts in school funding and mental health legislation as reasons for cautious optimism. And of course, from over the weekend, what a great hockey game. Game three, Stanley Cup Finals, Golden Knights Five, Carolina Hurricanes Four. Back and forth and back and forth it went. And Vegas pulled off the win in double overtime. Game four Tuesday night back at the Fortress Team Mobile Arena. That's your Sun briefing for today. Stay with us for full coverage at lasvegassun.com.
