It's Thursday, Las Vegas. Here are today's top stories from the Las Vegas Sun. Four years after the U.S. Supreme Court's Dobbs decision overturned federal abortion protections, Nevada advocates are pushing to make sure reproductive rights remain protected in the state. Supporters of Question 6, also known as the Right to Abortion Initiative, say the measure is critical for safeguarding access long term. The proposal already passed once in 2024 with strong voter support and must be approved again this year to amend Nevada's constitution, putting abortion protections beyond the reach of future legislatures. In sports, after falling just two wins short of hoisting the Stanley Cup, the Golden Knights are entering an offseason that could reshape the franchise. One major change is already official with Ryan Craig stepping in as the team's fifth head coach in franchise history. Expect more moves ahead as the Golden Knights are forced to retool rather than run back the same roster next season. Also today, a new five-story $25 million parking garage in the Arts District is scheduled to open September 29th. Located on South Casino Center Boulevard, the garage is expected to ease parking pressure in one of the city's fastest growing entertainment and cultural hubs, where new businesses, restaurants, and events continue drawing larger crowds. And lastly, mosquito news. Health officials are urging residents to stay vigilant after mosquitoes carrying West Nile virus were detected in three Las Vegas area zip codes. Positive mosquito samples were identified in southeast Las Vegas near the Convention Corridor and in the Southwest Valley. Health officials are reminding residents to eliminate standing water, use insect repellent, and take precautions to reduce mosquito exposure during the summer months. Fun fact, or maybe not so fun, mosquitoes are by far the deadliest animal in the world, killing more humans per year than all other animals combined. That's your news for today.
