U.S. Sens. Jacky Rosen and Catherine Cortez Masto, both D-Nev., have joined a group of Senate colleagues in calling on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services and General Government to bar the Commodity Futures Trading Commission from using federal funds to stop states and tribal nations from regulating online prediction markets.

The push, led by Sens. Richard Blumenthal, D-Conn., and Jeff Merkley, D-Ore., follows several CFTC lawsuits in recent months targeting states that have sought to regulate and impose safeguards on prediction markets such as Kalshi and Polymarket.

It's Tuesday, Las Vegas. Here's what's making news from the Las Vegas Sun. Nevada U.S. Senators Catherine Cortez Masto and Jackie Rosen have joined a group of Senate colleagues asking the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Financial Services to block the Commodity Future Trading Commission from using federal money to stop states and tribal nations from regulating online prediction markets. The effort comes after the CFTC filed lawsuits against the states trying to rein in platforms like Calchi and Polymarket. In Nevada, the Nevada Gaming Control Board issued a cease and desist order against both platforms back in March 2025. In education news, UNLV is capitalizing on the city's sports boom. The William F. Harra College of Hospitality announced Nevada's first undergraduate degree in sports hospitality management will launch in the fall. The program was built with industry executives to meet workforce demand as Las Vegas is now home to more than 10 professional sports organizations. In housing, southern Nevada's medium home price held steady at $490,000 in June, matching May's all-time high and up 1% from a year ago, according to Las Vegas Realtors. And in sports, the Las Vegas Aces are hopeful Asia Wilson is nearing a return after missing three games with a foot injury. Coach Becky Hammond says the four-time MVP could have played through it if it were a playoff game Sunday against Indiana, but instead held Wilson out as a precaution looking at the big pitcher.
