The Father's Business Podcast
The Rest of Your Inheritance
What would change if you fully grasped that you are a covenant child of God with unlimited access to His resources? This question lies at the heart of everything The Father's Business stands for.
Your identity as a beloved son or daughter of God is secure and unshakeable. Just as biological children share DNA with their parents that can never be denied, you share a spiritual connection with your Heavenly Father that transcends your performance or feelings. This isn't just theological concept but the practical foundation for victory in every situation you face.
Romans 8:15-17 reveals something extraordinary happening within you right now: your spirit and God's Spirit are having an ongoing conversation. The Holy Spirit continually testifies to your spirit that you are God's child and heir—with complete access to all His love, joy, peace, patience, forgiveness, and faith. When you lack these qualities in difficult situations, you don't need to manufacture them yourself; you can draw from God's unlimited supply. What if the most powerful spiritual stance isn't striving but resting in the knowledge that God is completely responsible for you and those you love?
The Father's Business was founded by Sylvia Gunter to encourage people to a deeper relationship with God. I'm Elizabeth Gunter Powell and I am Kimberly Roddy. Welcome to the Father's Business Podcast. We are so glad that you've joined us. Welcome to the podcast everyone.
Speaker 1:This is Elizabeth and unfortunately this week Kimberly is not going to be able to be with us. She is not feeling well and does not have the voice to be on a podcast this week. So first off, you know, father, we're just asking for you to heal Kimberly, that you would allow her to come back to full strength and health as quickly as possible, because I know she is feeling pretty low right now this week. I just wanted to give us a reminder of something that's kind of at the core of what the Father's Business is all about and help you understand why we talk about it so much. I often get asked why do you talk about being a covenant son or daughter of God so much? It's in a lot of our books that we've done. It's a big part of the Ruach Journey study that we do and the conference that we just held. We talked a lot about. What does it mean to be a covenant son or daughter of God Most High and the things that try to come against you to get you to believe that you're not. It's also a big part of Safe in the Father's Heart. It starts all the way in prayer portions and works its way all the way through all the materials because at its core, it is helping you understand two things. It's helping you understand who you are, what your true identity is and who God is, and that really is the absolute core of the Father's business.
Speaker 1:We all need to understand that we have been adopted by a beloved Father and not just any father, a father that has all of the resources in the entire universe at his disposal. It's kind of like the story of Annie. Annie is an orphan who then gets adopted by Daddy Warbucks right and all of a sudden all of the resources of the world are available to her. What a small echo of what it's like to be a part of God's family. Jesus came and paid the ransom for us so that we could become covenant sons and daughters of God Most High. So your position as a beloved son or daughter is secure. You cannot do anything to screw that up. Much like your natural, children are your children. You birth them, they are yours. They share your DNA. You birth them, they are yours, they share your DNA and even if you decide to in any way try to disown them, you cannot deny that is your DNA and you are genetically linked to that person.
Speaker 1:On a much bigger scale, god has adopted us as his sons and his daughters, and anything that anyone else says about us whether that be the enemy or someone in a relationship here, or our circumstances or our health, or anything tries to say we are. Anything that anyone else says about us, whether that be the enemy or someone in a relationship here, or our circumstances or our health, or anything tries to say we are less than full pledged sons and daughters of God Most High. It's not true, and even your disobedience does not disqualify you. Now. Would God be pleased that you live a life that is a thank you to him for all that he has done for you? Absolutely. But even on your worst day, you're still a daughter, you're still a son and if you can fully grasp first that part, this is who I am. I am a covenant son or daughter. That's amazing. But then who are you the son or daughter of? It's not a natural parent who, as best as we try to love our kids, we're going to screw up Like we're not perfect. Things get misunderstood. Intentions aren't fully always pure. We're human, pure we're human. But we are the son and daughter of God, who is perfect love, perfect joy, perfect peace, perfect patience with us.
Speaker 1:I often think about it when I think about my rescue cats that I have adopted. I always look at them and say you have hit the jackpot. You went from living outside in a barn where you were not safe and you didn't know where your next meal was coming, to having the run of the house. You have the meal you want served to you every day. Life is good on such a bigger scale you can't even put into English words the inheritance that you have been adopted into. Maybe you feel still more like a feral cat on the street than a beloved child of God Most High.
Speaker 1:But that's the journey we're on is to stop listening to the lies and the deceit that the enemy wants to throw at us, the shame that he wants to put on us, that there's no way God could love you because of what you've done, and allow ourselves to fully grasp and understand, as much as our finite minds can, that you are the beloved child of God. Your spirit resonates with his spirit, that you are the beloved. Romans 8, 15, and 17 says that. It says, for you have not received a spirit of slavery leading to fear again, but you have received a spirit of adoption as sons or daughters, by which we cry out Abba, father, and the Spirit, the Holy Spirit Himself, testifies with your spirit that we are children of God and if children, heirs also. Why do we talk so much about spirit, soul and body around here? Why do we talk so much about covenant son of God Most High, or covenant daughter of God most high? Because of these verses in Romans 8. Because God gave you a spirit. You were born spirit, soul and body. Your spirit is now, as a believer, connected with God's spirit. So your spirit and the Holy Spirit can testify to one another. You are the child of God. You're not just a child of God, you're an heir.
Speaker 1:That is that permission to have access to all the things of God. If you don't have love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness, gentleness and self-control, that's okay. God's got it for you. You don't have to be those things, you just have to receive the gift of him. If you don't have love for yourself because you feel like you've screwed up so much and you're disqualified. It's okay, because you have, as an heir, access to all the love that God has for you. Maybe it's that person that you're like.
Speaker 1:I just can't. I can't forgive them. I can't forgive them, I can't love them and for some of you, some very awful things have happened to you, and that in no way is condoning any action that has been done against you, but anywhere in your life you don't have faith to believe. There's a situation in your life right now that is so hard that you just say there's no way this is ever going to get any better, there's no way this is ever going to be any different. It's okay.
Speaker 1:You don't, on your own, have to muster up any of that, because you are an heir, as a covenant, son or daughter of God must tie. You are an heir and you have access to all of the faith that God has heir, and you have access to all of the faith that God has, all of the love that God has, all the forgiveness that God has, all of the power that God has. And so, all of a sudden, the battles that are coming against you look very different when a general goes into a battle, he doesn't go into that battle before first assessing how much firepower do we have versus how much firepower does the enemy have? And you may think that that big giant, your little David, and there's a Goliath in front of you, but the firepower behind you, as a covenant son and daughter of God Most High, is infinitely greater than any firepower coming against you. And so maybe this week you just need to take heart that your spirit, whether you believe it, whether your emotions are all over the place, whether you are just absolutely covered up in fear and worry and doubt, because there are big, scary things that are happening in a lot of our lives right now. It's okay, soul, if you are spinning out all over the place, no problem. If your body is not doing well, like our friend Kimberly's body is not doing okay right now, I mean not fun, but it's going to be okay, because even in those places your spirit is testifying with God's spirit and crying out Abba, father, the most intimate word in the Bible. It's like daddy, but even more intimate than that. In our English language there's not really a good translation for it your spirit is calling out to that tender heart of God and then his spirit is testifying to your spirit, that you are his child. And not only are you his child, but you have access to everything in him because you're an heir, and it doesn't matter what your circumstances look like right now. You have far more standing behind you than the enemy has behind him.
Speaker 1:I love this verse in the message. Let me just read it. The same verse as Romans 8, 15 to 17 in the message this resurrection life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life you received from God is not a timid, grave-tending life. It is adventurously expectant, greeting God with a childlike. What's next, papa? God's Spirit touches our spirit and confirms who we really are. We know who he is and we know who we are father and children and we know we're going to get what's coming to us an unbelievable inheritance. We go through exactly what Christ goes through. If we go through the hard times with him, then we're certainly going to go through the good times with him.
Speaker 1:As Easter approaches, some of you may be feeling like you're living during the week of the crucifixion, or even Saturday after Christ has been buried, but he has not been raised again. And if you're in those places, I just want to say to you yeah, you have to go through the hard times, jesus said. In this life you will have trouble, but it doesn't stop there. He says take heart, I have overcome the world. He is the resurrection and the life, and you not only have the power of the crucifixion, but you have all of the power of the resurrection and the ascension at your disposal. We just have to live from it.
Speaker 1:It would be like having a bank account and never using the ATM card that comes with it to make any type of withdrawals. It's great to have money in the bank, but if we never draw on that bank, we don't really have the money, do we? And so God has stored up for you all of who he is as Father, son and Holy Spirit. You have the best intercessor team. Some of you are like I'm so lonely. I'm the only person in my community. No one else gets this. No one else understands this idea of covenant, son of God and daughter and spirit, soul and body and all these things. Where I am, you have the best team at your disposal. Father, son and Holy Spirit are always on your team and, as we just read in Romans, the Holy Spirit is actively talking to your spirit all the time, saying you are the beloved of God and this is who God is for you. So, yes, sometimes it's great to have someone with skin on that you can talk the same language with, but you don't even need it because you and the Holy Spirit are constantly having a conversation. So maybe it's time we lean into that and ask God can you let me hear a bit of the conversation that's going on between my spirit and your spirit? Help my mind, which is beautiful and lovely, and we need our rational mind, but it is finite. There are things of the Spirit that our mind cannot fully comprehend. But, god, would you expand my mind of Christ, would you expand my understanding and allow me to understand more of what your Spirit and my Spirit are confessing to each other and talking about? Let me know the thoughts that you're sharing with my Spirit and, at the same time, if he doesn't be at peace, that there are far deeper things going on in your spirit and the spirit of your loved ones than you can know.
Speaker 1:There's a verse that I love. It's one of my favorite verses in the Bible because it speaks of the tender care of God so much in our lives. It's from Job. It's Job 10, 12. It says you gave me life and showed me kindness, and in your providence you watched over my spirit. And when we're together at Rock Journey conferences or in the Rock Journey study that's available on our website, we talk about that. We're knitted together in our mother's womb and God doesn't stop there and go well, hey, that's great, I'll just have to wait until this child is born and grows up and has the mental capacity to understand who I am, to start a relationship with them. That's not how God does it. He is extravagant and abundant in everything he does, including how he created us. He created us to spirit, soul and body in our mother's womb, and it says that he has been watching over our spirit from the moment that he gave us life in the womb.
Speaker 1:I spent some time looking into the words of that verse and to understand deeply. What does that verse really mean if you look at it in the Hebrew? And so this is my personal translation of that verse you have fashioned, crafted and made my life. You have fashioned, crafted and made my life, and your zealous love and kindness, your favor, custody and care have kept and guarded me and given heed of my spirit, like a gardener watches his garden or a shepherd watches over his flock and I love the deep richness of that, because a shepherd can't leave sheep alone or they will die. A gardener can't just plant seeds and come back four months later and have fruit. There's tending and watering and protecting it from insects. There's all these things that. Those are very labor-intensive descriptions that God is using and that's what he's been doing with your spirit all along.
Speaker 1:And maybe you're like yeah, okay, I got that. Yeah, I know that I'm the beloved, but what about my adult child? What about my husband? What about this other person in my life that I just don't know if they're even walking with God or not? God is far more actively involved in those people's lives than you could ever imagine. They may look like they are a thousand miles away from God, being the prodigal son or daughter, having no interest with anything to do with God, and yet the hope we're able to hold on to is even in those places. God knit them together in their mother's womb and he's been watching over their spirit every day since.
Speaker 1:So for some of us who have prayed and prayed and prayed and made up stuff to pray. It feels like and begged and pleaded. Maybe we just need to enter rest and if God prompts you to pray something, absolutely pray it. But what if you entered God's rest and said you know what, god, you're watching over their spirit. Your spirit is watching over their spirit as a gardener watches over a garden and a shepherd watches over his flock, and I may not see a lot of evidence of what you're up to on the outside. But I'm going to, instead of worrying on my knees and calling it prayer, instead of begging you to do something bargaining. I mean, we've all been there, haven't we? You know, god, if you'll just save so-and-so, if you'll just bring this person back into a relationship with you, I'll, you know, read my Bible every day. You know, we all do. We all do the games sometimes because it's out of our desperate love for the people around us that we do these things.
Speaker 1:But what if we chose to say you know what, I'm going to enter rest, whether it's a loved one who's not walking with God, whether it's a problem that seems too hard to solve, whether it's a health issue that you have begged God to take from you or take from someone else, financial issues that don't look like they're going to get better. What if we said I'm going to enter your rest and I'm going to trust that your spirit is speaking to my spirit. Your spirit is watching over the spirits of my loved ones. You are the ultimate father who has all resources to be able to do all things, and so I'm going to choose rest and trust and faith and allow you to do what feels impossible to me that marital relationship. That's not going well, Father. I'm going to stop trying to fix it. I'm going to stop trying to pray that you fix it. I'm going to stop trying to manipulate it and I'm going to choose to rest in your love. I'm going to choose to focus in on who am I. I'm a covenant daughter of God most high and God is entirely responsible for me and he's entirely responsible for my husband and my children and my co-workers and everyone else around me. So we talk about being a covenant son and daughter of God most high a lot, because it's the invitation to abide with Him, learn of Him, be with Him, enjoy Him, be able to wake up with that expectation of Papa.
Speaker 1:What's next? What are we going to do today? And, more importantly, god, what are you going to do today that I get to be a part of? How are you going to move in ways that seem impossible to me? And if you don't see results in the natural today, you put your head on the pillow tonight and you say God, I thank you that you're still working. I may not see it, I may not understand it, I may not even like it, but you're still working.
Speaker 1:And there are those of you that may be walking through grief. I'm very familiar with that. This week would have been my dad's birthday, and so there are just echoes of memories of birthdays gone by and, in some ways, loving the fact that he's in heaven and probably having the best birthday party ever, but also missing him. And in a lot of ways, grief can shut us down and it can make us feel like I don't even have the energy to pray. That's all right, it's okay. What you do have the energy to do is to be Be with Him, rest in Him, abide in Him, just be still with Him.
Speaker 1:Maybe the best thing we could do as we end this podcast is to set a timer. For those of you that have the wiggles, as I do, set a timer for 15 minutes. When is the last time you sat completely still for 15 minutes? And I say 15 minutes is an arbitrary number, but I think any less than 15 minutes, your mind's going to be racing, thinking about all the things you could be doing or need to be doing, or the things that aren't getting done, and so just asking God to come and allow your mind to be at rest no phone, no noise, just stillness. So quiet that you if you still have a clock that ticks, which a lot of us don't, but you could hear the ticks of a clock and just enter into his rest.
Speaker 1:So, father, as we close this podcast, I ask you to give us time today, carve out 15 minutes with you. We may be driving in a car right now and so it's not possible right this moment, but before we go to bed tonight, would you give us the gift of 15 minutes of stillness and quiet and allow us to lay our head on your chest and hear your heartbeat? Father, I thank you that you are our mighty warrior and whatever's coming against us, you can handle it. You've already got it. You've already got the victory. We're just waiting for it to be revealed. And, jesus, I thank you that you modeled this for us so beautifully.
Speaker 1:You would slip away from the crowds, you would slip away from the demands, you would slip away even from your disciples that you loved, and you would go and sit in the stillness with your Father because you knew rest is where your strength came from. And oh, to know what those conversations were about. I'm pretty sure they weren't about your agenda and what he needed to do next in the next town. I'm pretty sure it was you telling him a thousand different ways. I love you, I'm pleased with you, you are my beloved, I've got you, you're going to make it. You are victorious, you are pure, you are holy, you're my son and I am happy to be with you, son, and I am happy to be with you. And, holy Spirit, I thank you that, even when I'm not tuned in and listening, you're speaking and you are saying to my spirit over and over and over again you are the beloved and you have an Abba who is crazy nuts about you, who is crazy nuts about you. You are the beloved of God most high and he has everything you could possibly need and more so.
Speaker 1:Spirit, holy Spirit, please whisper to our spirit the more you have more.
Speaker 1:Whisper to our spirit more and where our spirits have been crushed and broken by the hardness of the world we live in, would you breathe life into us again, wake us up again, wake up our slumbering spirit, Wake up and heal our broken places? You are near to the brokenhearted and close to those that are crushed in spirit. So, for those that feel like they just don't have what it takes to do it, would you breathe life into them and expand our spirits to the fullness of what you designed us to be when you knit us together in our mother's womb? So come Father for your children, come, jesus in your power and push back anything that is trying to war against our spirit, soul and body today, because you are victory. And come, holy Spirit, in your power, but also in your gentlest whisper, and reveal to us what we need to know about God today.
Speaker 1:So I bless everyone listening to this podcast to tune your spirit, soul and body into full and complete alignment with Father, son and Holy Spirit and breathe in the truth that you are a covenant son and daughter of God Most High. He is completely responsible for you spirit, soul and body, and he has the victory. I want to thank you for listening to the Father's Business Podcast.
