Devotional-Comfort All Who Mourn
Amidst the devastation of recent Texas hill country flooding, this heartfelt devotional emerges as a beacon of spiritual comfort and hope. We begin by acknowledging the profound loss many are experiencing – loved ones, homes, possessions, and livelihoods – while lifting up earnest prayers for victims, rescue workers, and those coordinating relief efforts.
Drawing from Isaiah 61:1-3, we explore Jesus's self-defined mission to "bind up the brokenhearted" and "comfort all who mourn." These ancient words take on renewed significance for those facing the aftermath of natural disaster. The devotional doesn't shy away from the reality of suffering but instead offers the reassurance that God remains present even when circumstances suggest otherwise. For those struggling to find words in their grief, we share the beautiful concept of tears as "liquid intercession" – precious to God when verbal prayers fail us.
The Father's Business was founded by Sylvia Gunter to encourage people to a deeper relationship with God. Thank you for listening to this devotional.
Speaker 2:Hi everyone, as we prepare to release this devotional today, we just want to send out a note that we are praying for those who have been affected in the hill country of Texas by the flooding of the river and the rising of the waters and all that has gone on there. We are praying for those of you who have lost loved ones. We are praying for those of you who are caring for those who have lost loved ones. We are praying for those of you that are stepping up and serving. We are praying for everyone who's been affected by the loss of things the loss of their home, the loss of cars, the loss of jobs, the loss of many things that have happened in that area, and we are praying for so many that are there trying to still care and serve and show up and rescue and help from this devastation. We heard from someone who is connected to the Father's business, who lives in that area. She has said that they covet our prayers. She says please pray that there would be order and effective assistance to those in need. She says, right now people are just coming from everywhere wanting to help, but with no point of contact. We are praying that all of the needs get met and that the hearts are soft to the message of salvation of the Lord. She is very grateful for our prayers, so let's offer a prayer before this devotion.
Speaker 2:Jesus, would you come in the fullness of all that you are and would you offer comfort and hope to the many lives that have been devastated? Jesus, would you bind up the brokenhearted, would you give comfort to those who mourn? Would you be with us who cannot be present, and remind us to pray? Would you raise up many people to pray and to do what the body of Christ needs to do during this time? Jesus, we pray that you would pour out your grace, that you would pour out your presence, that you would be the God who sees, the God who knows, the God who heals, the God who restores to so many that need it. In this time, jesus, we lift up to you the people of Texas and the family and friends far and wide who have been impacted and affected. Jesus, come in all of your fullness and be the God who comforts and heals and binds up the broken hearts. In Jesus' name.
Speaker 3:Comfort all who mourn. Isaiah 61, 1-3. Spirit, your Abba sent his Son, who began his ministry on earth. Quoting Isaiah 61, 1-3, jesus said the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me because the Lord has anointed me. He sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to comfort all who mourn and provide for those who grieve in Zion, to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of gladness instead of mourning, and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. Spirit, come to the front to be blessed in the name of the Spirit of the Sovereign Lord.
Speaker 3:Jesus defined his call and His eternal relationship with you when he quoted this passage in His first public sermon the kingdom of your Sovereign Lord is within you and the indwelling Christ is anointed in your life to bring good news to you, to bind up your broken heart and to comfort your mourning. He is faithful, to comfort you in your grief. These days may not feel like His goodness or His faithfulness, but His Word promises that dark clouds are under His feet. He never stops being your dear Father, who invites you near to Him to be loved, guided, delivered, healed and comforted. All you love is in his hands. He hears your prayers and your tears. When there are no words, he counts them as liquid intercession, which is precious to him. He is your mighty warrior and he contends with those forces that are contending with you.
Speaker 3:Be blessed with a still heart while he fights for you. Be blessed in his covenant of love that can never be taken from you. Be blessed to know that everything is for his glory, so that the thanksgiving of many will overflow to you. Believe that he is being glorified in you and in the soul and in the body Spirit. Be blessed with His sure promise that he is able to guard what you have entrusted to Him. Receive His covering of His sweet presence and peace that passes all understanding and all of your cares. He never loses sight of who he designed you uniquely to be and who he designed those you love to be. His plans for you are written on the palm of the nail-pierced hands of his son, and those scars are eternally before his throne in heaven. Be blessed to know him as your father of compassion and God of all comforts who comforts you in all of your troubles.
