Devotional-Direction (Isa. 11:2-3)

Elizabeth Gunter Powell and Kimberly Roddy

What does it mean to be guided by the Spirit of the Lord? Drawing from the rich imagery of Isaiah 11, this devotional unpacks the sevenfold Spirit—wisdom, understanding, counsel, power, knowledge, fear of the Lord, and delight in that fear—and how these aspects manifest in our daily walk with God.

Are you struggling to discern God's direction in your life? Take a moment today to quiet yourself, seek His face, and listen for that gentle whisper guiding you forward. Remember, you never walk alone—your personal Guide walks beside you every step of the way.

Speaker 2:

Hey everyone, it's Elizabeth and I'm inviting you to join Kimberly and I for Rooted and Resilient, october 3rd and 4th in Charlotte, north Carolina. We'll spend the weekend exchanging, striving for rest, fear for sonship and depletion for blessing. Spots are limited, so be sure to register today at thefathersbusinesscom Direction. Isaiah 11, 2, and 3. Spirit, listen to God's word in Isaiah 11, 2, and 3. The Spirit of the Lord will rest on him, the Spirit of wisdom and of understanding, the Spirit of counsel and of power, the Spirit of knowledge and of the fear of the Lord, and he will delight in the fear of the Lord. He will not judge by what he sees with his eyes or decide by what he hears with his ears. Spirit be blessed in the name of the sevenfold Spirit of the Lord. The prophecy in these verses was perfectly fulfilled in Jesus. God put you in relationship with his Son so that he lives in you to be all of himself for you. In him you have the spirit of wisdom and understanding, the spirit of counsel and power, the spirit of knowledge and the fear of the Lord. The living word inhabits his written word and hundreds of promises about his tender direction of you. Seek his face as you cry out to him. Show me your ways, o Lord. Teach me your paths, guide me in your truth and teach me. Be blessed as he responds to you. As he said in Psalm 32, 8, I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go. This picture is someone walking beside an ox, goading it along. It's the idea of coaxing, directing, instructing and training until the ox is accustomed by practice to doing it the master's way. But God promises something more. I will guide you with my eye. He can lead you with one look of his eyes, like that meaningful look you give your child eye to eye, without a word being spoken. Be blessed to be always looking into His face to see His guidance Spirit. God promises precise direction that you will hear in Isaiah 30, 21. Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you saying this is the way. Walk in it. Be blessed as you hear Him whisper direction. This is the way. Walk this way.

Speaker 2:

If his word is to fight, let it be for his glory. If he says to wait, let it be with hope and grace, secure in his timing and sovereign hand. If his word is to flee, let it be with permission and at his direction. If he tells you to offer a sacrifice of praise, let it be with thanksgiving. That is a sweet savor to Him.

Speaker 2:

Be blessed to be confident that he is working out all things for good, whether you see it or feel it now, spirit, be blessed as you follow His faithful direction. He will teach you His ways and make you sensitive to His hand on your life. Be blessed with assurance that you don't go anywhere today without your personal guide. Be blessed with His open door before you that no one can shut according to His sovereign will, and with closed doors that are outside His purposes for you. Let the blessing of His presence lead you.

Speaker 2:

Don't go where he does not bless. Be blessed as you seek His face, for His eyes are open to all your ways. Let your expectation be centered in Him as he directs your paths. He gives you peace because he promises that he will keep in perfect peace those whose eyes are fixed on Him because you trust in him. Be steadfast and fix your hope completely in him and rely on him, as you know that all things are totally in his hands. For Jesus' sake, be blessed in the name of the one who guides you in paths of righteousness for his name's sake.
