Devotional-Is God Satisfied In Me?

Elizabeth Gunter Powell and Kimberly Roddy

Have you ever thought that simply enjoying God’s presence blesses His heart? This devotional, inspired by Deuteronomy 10:8, reminds us that like the priests who offered the bread of presence, we are called not only to receive from God but to minister to Him. Through meditations on Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we’re invited to delight in who God is—not just what He gives—discovering that our joy in Him brings Him joy. Worship becomes more than duty; it becomes a shared intimacy that transforms prayer, meditation, and daily life.

The Father's Business was founded by Sylvia Gunter to encourage people to a deeper relationship with God. Thank you for listening to this devotional. Have you ever thought about God's heart being satisfied? Oftentimes we can think about a relationship with God as a one-way transaction where God is ministering to us. But God is delighted with our fellowship, and our enjoying his presence is a ministry to him. In Deuteronomy 10, 8, it says, At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the covenant of the Lord, to stand before the Lord to minister to him and to pronounce blessings in his name as they still do today. As New Testament priests, we carry the Word of God and we minister to God, and from that overflow we bless in His name. In the holy place in the Old Testament where the priests ministered, the bread of the presence was always in the tabernacle. The priests offered the bread to God for six days, and they ate it on the seventh day. The ritual foreshadowed that this communion satisfies God and it satisfies us as well. This bread represents for us our communion with triune God. Jesus is called our living bread. In liturgical church traditions, I'm told that the priest may say in the communion service, feed on him in your hearts by faith. Our communion with him is first of all for his pleasure. Communion is an attitude of deep intimacy with God, focusing on taking in his word and his presence by his spirit with love and joy. So let's take some time to meditate on truths. These truths are for intimacy, not just for information. As I read them, take a break, pause. Selah is the word that's often used in the Psalms. Let God plant them deep within you in awe and reverence and wonder. Be amazed and moved at who God is. Let your spirit receive these truths from God your Father, Jesus the Son, and the Holy Spirit, and then respond from a full and overflowing heart. I'll be reading triplets of who God is as Father, Son, and Holy Spirit around a theme. Allow the truth of who God is to root deeply in your spirit, soul, and body so that you can enjoy Him and minister to Him by enjoying His presence. God is my everything. I awake in the Father who made me and calls me his covenant child. I arise in the Son who redeemed my life from the empty way of life of my forefathers. I greet the morning in the Spirit who fills me with life and promise and joy. I choose to be intentional to allow his presence to fill my life. God sets me in fellowship, in fellowship with the Father, with whom I have fellowshiped as I walk in the light, in fellowship with the Son, whom God called me into fellowship, and in fellowship with the Spirit, in whom I abide in fellowship. Take a moment and express your gratitude for the rich fellowship that you enjoy with him. God governs my days. The Father writes my days in his book. My government is on the shoulders of his son. The Spirit dwells in my heart as a deposit, guaranteeing what is to come. Take a moment and choose, because it is a choice and sometimes a minute by minute choice. I choose to rest in God's governing and keeping of me. God loves me in a threefold cord of his love. The Father is love and loves me with everlasting love. The Son loves me, has freed me from my sin by his blood, and has set me in a kingdom and made me a priest to serve his God and Father. The Spirit loves me and pours out the love of the Father in my heart. So Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we choose to love you deeply and receive the love that you have put in us. He is my threefold peace. The Father gives me peace and not anxiety. Jesus Himself is my peace, the power of an untroubled heart. The Spirit is righteousness, peace, and joy. So, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we choose you as our security and we choose to hide ourselves under your wing. As this devotional closes, spend some time with him, thanking him, the three in one, that as we find our satisfaction in him and we rejoice in him, that his heart is ministered to as well. May it lead to blessing in your life as well as the blessing of lives of those around you.
