Twelve years is a long time to hurt in silence. Mark 5 gives us a woman who has tried everything, spent everything, and still isn’t better and then she makes one brave move: she reaches through the crowd and touches the hem of Jesus’ garment. Her pain stops immediately, but the deeper surprise is what Jesus does next. He pauses, turns toward the unseen person, and makes space for her whole truth.
We sit with this story as a mirror for chronic illness, emotional wounds, and situations that feel like they will never change. When life is pressing in and your need feels small compared to everyone else’s crisis, Jesus’ attention in Mark 5 challenges that lie. He is on the way to help a dying girl, yet he stops to minister to one person who reaches for him in faith. That means your suffering is not invisible, and your prayer is not an interruption.

May God quiet your spirit and soul, draw you close to the Father's heart, and anchor you in the unshakable truth that you are deeply loved and securely held.
In Mark 5, we read that Jesus has healed a demon-possessed man and is on his way with a large crowd to the house of a synagogue leader whose daughter is dying. A large crowd followed and pressed in all around Jesus. And a woman was there who had been subject to bleeding for twelve years. She had suffered a great deal under the care of many doctors and had spent all she had, yet instead of getting better she grew worse. When she heard about Jesus, she came up behind him in the crowd and touched his cloak, because she thought if I just touch his clothes, I will be healed. Immediately her bleeding stopped, and she felt in her body that she was freed from her suffering. At once Jesus realized that power had gone out from him. He turned around in the crowd and asked, Who touched my clothes? His disciples were quick to answer him, You see the people crowding against you, and yet you can ask who touched you? Jesus kept looking around to see who had done it. Then the woman, knowing what had happened to her, came and fell at his feet and trembled with fear, telling him the whole truth. He said to her, Daughter, your faith has healed you. Go in peace and be freed from your suffering.
Many of us are struggling with long-term issues in our lives, whether the suffering be physical or emotional, a relationship that won't heal, a situation that doesn't feel like it's ever going to get better. I want to encourage you today to lean into who God is for you. Jesus was in the midst of very important business. He had just healed someone who was demon-possessed. He was on his way to save a dying girl. And yet, when he felt the touch on the hem of his garment, he stopped and he ministered to that person. You may feel that way today, that there are so many other things that are more important for Jesus to be focused on than your situation. And I want to encourage you to lean into him and pray and ask for his healing.
So let's pray together. Heavenly Father, just as the woman in Mark V reached out in faith to touch the hem of Jesus' garment, I come before you today longing to reach out and receive from you. You know every place of long suffering and desperation in my life. You understand the persistent pain and the areas where I am in need of healing. Today I reach out to you in faith, not for a fleeting feeling, but to embrace your promise of ultimate healing. A promise you never fail to fulfill. Even if I don't feel different immediately, remind me that my faith is not rooted in emotions, but anchored in your unchanging truth. Help me trust in your faithfulness and believe that you will meet my deepest needs with yourself. Lord, grant me persistent faith that pushes through the crowds of doubt and fear. I trust that Jesus has all I need for true healing. Just as Jesus knew at once when the woman touched him with faith, I know that you are aware of my every prayer and are ready to extend your power and virtue to me personally. Just as you said to the woman, daughter, your faith has healed you. Help me hear you call me, daughter or son, welcoming me into an abiding relationship with you. May I experience the healing, peace, and freedom that flow from your presence. As I place my trust in you, may my faith be strengthened. Grant me rest in your unwavering love and compassion, especially in times of suffering. In Jesus' name, Amen.
