Not to give away our assassination coordinates or anything, but um where we're located, it's uh 4th of July. It is a billion degrees out, and there is a sewage line pumping Pooh water poo water into the beaches, so those are all closed. And gosh, you know, if it weren't for like the high national mood and just sense of of like old-fashioned optimism and patriotism, I feel, I don't know how I'd be getting through it.

Um, well, I did want to just kind of talk about, you know, if you're trying to find a way to beat the heat and you just want to like cool down and watch some streaming, um, Ready or Not To is on Hulu. Oh, yeah, and we like that. Lee Cronin's the Mummy will be on HBO this weekend. Yeah, yeah. Shudder is gonna have exit eight.

Um that's Shudder is gonna have Exit 8 streaming, and then Over Your Dead Body with Samara Weaving and Jason Siegel will be on the Sundance Channel. So if you missed any of those in the theater or wanted to see those, they're now streaming.

It does. Um, so I'll start with a with a movie, a new movie.

It's coming out uh July 2nd on Netflix. So by the time you hear that this, it's probably already out. Oh. Um, it's called Human Vapor, and it's basically about a man who explodes on live TV, and the police have to hunt a serial killer who transform in transforms into gas in order to kill his victims from the inside.

I'm gonna take a stab in the dark and say that this is either Japanese or South Korean.

It's both. It is a Japanese South Korean thriller based on the 1960 Takusatsu film of the same name. Oh, that's cool.

Um, my next one, you'll be surprised to know, is a book. And yes, I do read those. You do. This one is coming out on a very special day, July 21st. Um, and it's Carry Me to My Grave by Christopher Golden. Have you read any Christopher Golden? What have you read? Um, the vacation one. The House of Last Resort. Yes. Did you like it? I did. Because I just took it out of the library. Oh. Yeah, I'm gonna read it soon. Um I have not read his recent stuff. I read his Vampire The Shadow Saga from like the 90s and 2000s. Those were they were great. He writes like, you know, beach reads, like page turn's.

Yeah. Um I love a thriller. I'm looking forward to this. Now I'm just gonna read the uh the blurb. Maggie wise will take your eyes. When Malcolm was growing up, the local kids made up that chant about his mother claiming she was a witch. He and his siblings did their best to ignore it. Now Maggie is dying, and those same siblings have left Malcolm and his sister-in-law Violet to hold a vigil at her bedside. But they're not as alone as they think they are. A dark figure waits and watches from beneath the willow tree across the street, hundreds of miles away, an ancient evil stirs in its burrow under a farmer's cornfield. Across the country, an other buried things begin to dream in anticipation of Malcolm's demise. Maggie's demise, sorry. On her deathbed, the old woman elicits a promise from Malcolm, her youngest child. When she dies, he and Violet must return her body to her birthplace in Shediac, Maine. We don't need one. We we don't fall asleep in the middle of cabinet meetings. I am going to go to my big one. And this is of two films this year in the horror genre, my most looked looking forward to well said anticipated. That's the one.

I mean, I just wish you would stop burning the toast. Can you please check the oven? It's all I can smell. Um We don't have enough. Now, I have to wait until Christmas to see Werewolf. That's the other one. But I don't have to wait to see Evil Dead Burn coming uh in theaters July 24th from Dress director Sebastian Vanisek. Now, Sebastian Vanisek, we've only seen one film of his because he's only directed one movie, and that was Infested. Uh, which you might remember from our now Spider episode famous spider episode, one of the horror episodes we've got. Yeah, the prep sometimes the prep for these shows is is is taxing. And it it that was an episode that left me exhausted.

But Infested was the real deal.

It was really good and scary.

A horror movie? That's a horror movie. Yeah. It was absolutely fucking terrifying. So, really looking forward to this. Now, um What's it called again? Evil Dead Burn. And yes, it is the latest installment of that most perfect, precious franchise, Evil Dead, which we have discussed before. Uh, we'll discuss again, and as I've said many times, has no weak links. No bad entries from start to finish. I can't think of another franchise that has zero bad entries. Um they are just good to classic. Um anyway, this one, like most of them filmed in New Zealand, uh longtime home of uh Evil Dead producer Rob Tappert, uh, also known as Lucy Lawless's husband. Oh. Um they've been married since the 90s. Yeah. No, like Mr. Lawful. Yeah, boom. Because they're married. Exactly. Under the eyes of the Deadites. Um Kanda. So following the death of uh the there's about this family. Following the death of the matriarch's son, a family comes together in a secluded house. Uh, this house becomes the family reunion from hell. That's literally all I could really get on the movie. But then the trailer kind of gives it away. Um, so they're staying in the gloomiest looking fucking house ever. It's this family that's gathering after what I gather I think was like the car like gruesome car accident death of of their son. Um so his uh his widow is with her, you know, in-law's family, and um I don't know exactly what the connection to the book of the dead is, but it's there, and the deadites come and all hell breaks loose. And it's like family trauma meets Evil Dead.

I have heard that this is a gruesome edition, um, which really fits because Evil Dead Rise, the last installment from Lee Cronin.

Yep. That Lee Cronin's Evil.

Yes, that Lee Cronin, the mummy is Lee Cronin. Yes. Um, we all know Lee Cronin. So uh that was a gnarly one that had the the famous I feel like every Evil Dead has to have that one scene in it that makes you like, oh you know, it was the tree uh scene in the first movie, in Evil Dead Rise it was the cheese grater, and in this one from the trailer, it looks like somebody drinking hot wax out of a candle. Uh so that's that's gross. Yeah. Um there's always that one stomach churner. Anyway, the trailer's actually amazing. I it I'd recommend watching it. It doesn't give too much away, but the movie looks like it's fucking bananas. Uh crazy, crazy intense. The social media embargo just lifted, and I'm always kind of wary of those, but some writers um that I do really trust, like uh Brad Misca over at Dread Central, gave it pretty rave reviews. Um, it's got all the humor, uh, strangeness, and surprising cruelty was one of the the quotes. So that's an Evil Dead Mains Day, too.

Yeah, listen, this is definitely one I'm gonna be seeing without beloved co-host, and I accept that. Yeah, that's fine. We can do things separately sometimes, maybe once in a while. I'll think of you, though. I'll bring a little picture. Um but I don't know. But Evil Dead is really special to me. It it it came into existence in 1981, just like my little brother. So it's like it's like my other little brother that's like much nicer to me.

He doesn't listen. Anyway, we are um looking forward to that one, folks. July 24th, Evil Dead Burn. And coming next year, another Evil Dead, Evil Dead Wrath from director Francis Gallippi. And that one is going to be a prequel set in the 70s before Ashley Williams went to the cabin.

So I think it's probably about the um, you know, the the fan the doctor and family. Because like Evil Dead 2 had the guy's daughter, um, uh Doctor, whatever his name was, who discovered the book. So I think it's gonna be about him, but I don't know. And I'm who cares? It's gonna be great. Evil Dead! Nice. What a time to be alive. Or dead eyed.

Or it's Svenestrop. He is Danish. He wrote The Chestnut Man. He also created the Danish TV series The Killing, which the Oh Yes, yeah, no, the Danish version version was.

The American version was really good. The Danish version I I'm a it's it's amazing. It's got that same uh actress from the the the the bridge. The Danish those Scandinavians can they make some good crime dramas. Yeah, they really do. I wonder if it's anything to do with the midnight darkness all year round and maybe um all the snow.

But yeah, the uh you know, if you if you've only watched the American version of the killing, you should definitely watch the Danish one.

Yeah. Um, so this comes out July 7th, uh, and it's a new novel about uh uh a woman who hears a strange voice coming from the woods that's repeating a children's rhyme, and then soon after a body's discovered in the woods. Cut to 30 years later, another woman hears, gets text messages, all these children's rhymes again, taunting her. She goes missing, and the killer seems to be back, and it's up to the local detectives to find the newest missing victims before there's another.

My gosh. That a children's rhyme coming from a deep dark forest is that's like one of the last things you want to hear coming out of a deep dark forest.

Um, I'm pretty sure that this is gonna be uh he's he's uh made the chestnut man into a Danish series. Okay. So this will probably be a series as well.

Yeah, I mean, he's got some interesting ideas and you know, he really does have this kind of detective mystery uncovering novel um hacked. So um yeah, uh Hide and Seek coming out July 7th.

I don't have any more recommendations. You know, I was going to talk about um Rant. Rant? Oh no, no, no, no. I don't I don't do that, my friends. I I am I am stable as a table. Um no, I was gonna talk about Nicholas Weining Reffin's new movie, um Her Private Hell. Uh I So Nicholas Weining Reffin is he's a pretty controversial filmmaker. I tend to really like most of his movies. Um, but in like his later output has been I don't know. Neon Demon was weird. Um I did like only God Forgives, and you love Drive, but his his like reason more recent movies have been have mixed reception, let's put it that way. So I was gonna talk about her private hell with Sophie Thatcher, but the words that have been used to describe it include like unwatchable, um, like a lot of unwatchables. That's what most people have been describing it as. So I I guess don't watch it, but um what an endorsement, everyone. No, I'm not endorsing it. That's the point. I'm just talking about it. But like sometimes a an auteur filmmaker, so to speak, I think could use that friend next to them who's like, yo, that's a terrible idea. And you know, they get a little too into themselves and they make something like megalopolis level, you know, and it's like really hubristic, but it doesn't work. That's what this seems to be. So yeah, I mean, if you want, I'm not gonna watch it. I'll probably just go back and re-watch Drive or the Pusher trilogy, which I also did like uh pretty recently. So good.
