I've I've really wanted to have her on Hope Unlocked to share her testimony and just what's on her heart. So, Heidi, would you just share a little bit about yourself before we get into that?
SPEAKER_02Sure. Thank you, Kristen. I'm so excited to be here and feel blessed that I can be part of your podcast.
SPEAKER_03Yes.
SPEAKER_02I am originally from Philadelphia and I moved to Minnesota by way of Colorado and Florida in 2001. And I've been here ever since. So Minnesota has become my new home. I um have two children and five bonus kids. So I've been in the parenting throws for many, many years. And um I now work in the corporate world and also run the Fellowship of Extraordinary Women Twin Cities. That chapter I started in 2025, and that was a thing of obedience from the Lord. And this year I am the Republican endorsed candidate for my district, which is District 36, for state senate. So God has been leading me along this path, and it's a little scary, but uh just taking one step at a time and um being obedient to the call.
SPEAKER_00Yes. Well, I love um, you know, you you work in the corporate space. Um, and I would love just even if you would share just a little bit more about um FU with us, because that's actually how we connected. Um, you just celebrated your one-year anniversary. And could you just share a little bit about Few for those who um, you know, either live nearby? There are other chapters in the US. Um, so those, you know, if they're wondering, like, what is Fellowship of Extraordinary Women? I mean, I love the name and they might too.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I ran across it in 2023 when I threw a different Christian organization. There was a woman there speaking. Uh, her name is Nancy Major, and she led me to Few and their speakers course because I felt called into the political arena. And I first went to the speakers course and became a member of the Milwaukee chapter of Few. And I was blown away by how it brings women together, and we all come to have our cups filled. So we're pouring into one another. We're awakening to what God has called us to do, and we're being activated to go out into our communities and be the light and the hands and feet of Jesus. So more people can encounter Jesus through through the women, because women change the culture. Men are the ones that are called to go out and fight, but women go in and change the culture. And so what is absolutely necessary is for us to be the hands and feet of Jesus, to go out and be the light in our communities and just love people the way Jesus loved people.
SPEAKER_00Yes. So you became a chapter, you became a chapter here. Um what led you to like step into that? Was that something that um was kind of a wild step of obedience for you? Um to ask.
SPEAKER_02Definitely was. I I was out at the speaker's course and I had um had to share a room with somebody. And I was just, I'm like, oh my gosh, I have to share a room with another woman. I don't know her. And it which was funny. The whole story is kind of long. I'll kind of skip over it. But we became fast friends. And I that she was part of the reason why I started a chapter because she was opening a chapter in Atlanta. Her name is Buffy Pain. And uh, I felt called into this political arena and needed something that would be more part-time and that could be more than part-time, but also would allow me to um run for a political office, perform those duties, and still make a living outside of government. And it just came together. And um uh Kimberly Joy, who is the founder of Few, she and I worked together for almost a year before I launched the chapter, and then launched the chapter in 2025.
SPEAKER_00Wow. I I love I love that you said yes because had you not said yes, we who knows if we would have ever met and how many women's lives that you've impacted to help them, you know, bring on their powerful yes. I feel like when women get together in a room and and I love like the setting and just the table that you're setting there, just the way that it is like a non-competitive, it's really a lot of like collaboration and um, you know, just coming together and lifting each other up, which is I don't know. For me, at times it can be rare, right? Yes.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Well, in God's kingdom economy, there is more than enough for everyone. And so what you bring to the table is going to be different than what somebody else brings to the table. And so when we honor what each woman has to contribute, it becomes this beautiful setting. Uh we're keeping on the table analogy, where there's a place for everyone and everyone has a chance to be heard and not just talked at. Right. A lot of these networking groups, you have people just talking at you and not really learning about you, or the not you as the individual not being able to share your pearls of wisdom and what value you offer to uh the greater body of women in the room.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, would you just really quick, I want to, you know, of course, make sure that we leave time for this um big next step that you stepped into, but you know, just even in over the last year, like what has been like the most impactful thing that you've experienced through stepping into this role as um a leader in this space? And then would you share maybe a testimonial of somebody who has been part of the group um over the last year, their experience and being part of Few?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So with stepping into the leadership of this chapter, I was really nervous because I we know we always compare. We that's what the world wants you to do. We open social media and we have all of these uh videos of these perfect bodies and faces, and they don't look like they're in their 50s. And um we see that all the time. And and going into being a chapter president, in my my own mind, I was comparing myself to Buffy and to Kimberly and to Dr. Jessica Stone and other women that have stepped into this role. And what God brought me to was yeah, they are awesome, wonderful women, but they're not you. You have this, I as me, I have a different experience and a different um I have I have things that I can pour into women that come from another place. So Buffy is um very much in the um security realm, like physical security. And Jessica, she's no longer a chapter president, um, but she is a psychologist. And and then Kimberly, she's just poured into women her whole life. And and so I come with a different uh experience. And that allows me to be empathetic and to come to an understanding where people are and understand their struggles and how we can move through it and overcome because I've had to overcome so much in my life. And God has rewarded that. Uh for me to get up in front of people and to speak about biblical principles coming as coming from Judaism is is was a hurdle for me. I'm like, I can't do this. And so every time I go in when I'm speaking, I'm like, oh, all right, Holy Spirit, it this is on you. Yeah, I can't do it on my own. And so that that walk of obedience and full surrender is what it takes to be successful. It's not me who's doing it, it's uh it's the Lord working through me.
SPEAKER_00Yes, so good. And like I I just feel like every month I've seen you just grow and bloom. And I like to say super bloom. So you're definitely in a super bloom season. It's beautiful. Oh. Well, what would you say? Um, you know, maybe a woman who has been part of the group for a while or even has just visited one time and and kind of their experience, like testimonial-wise, so somebody can kind of get a first-hand experience of what um other gals have have stepped into.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, there's there's been there have been many that have um stepped into uh the f the few space and then um come out with so there was a woman, I don't know if I should be naming names, but she's currently launching her own um group, but it's different, a different type of group, but it's a step of obedience. Um it wasn't what she thought she was going to do, it was um this uh Holy Spirit download of this is where we want you to go, and it makes no sense. It absolutely makes no sense. That's those were the things that seemed to be the most blessed is when you take that step uh of obedience, and uh rarely does it make any sense at all that I think your story is one of the most impactful ones where you left corporate and it made no sense, but look at what you've created. And so now she's launching this week her, uh it's an online group. And so that has been a step of obedience for her. And then there's a couple other women that want to be more like wallflowers, like they want to blend into the background. And I understand that 100%. I spent most of my adult life hiding from being recognized. So here I am in a spotlight. But uh for them to understand how much God loves them and just getting poured into, because I think that was what they needed was uh to have other women come around them and pour into them because their cup was so empty from the experience that they had been going through. And just being able to come once a month and and be filled and know that they are truly loved and to hear from God because each time I know the Holy Spirit is working in that room, and every there's a woman that is really getting an answer to prayer or direction as to what the next step is, because we know God doesn't give out the blueprint, we give it one step at a time.
SPEAKER_00One step at a time, yes. Well, and I and if I can just share even two to my own experience. Um, you know, I I I think I even came to the first, very first meeting, and I've been able to come to every single one of them except the last one, which I was a little sad about because it was the one-year anniversary. Um, but I was in Florida, so we'll we'll we'll give, you know, we we've got to give it a little grace there, right? Um, but Heidi had asked me if I wanted to speak at one of the meetings. And as some of you know, just even in in saying yes to a podcast, it was like, Lord, I I think you don't know who you're talking to. You know, like the Moses syndrome, right? Where it's like, oh, I'm not eloquent of speech. And you know, a lot of times I love to get behind women and be the one who kind of likes to help push them out to the microphone. And, you know, like similar to you, it's like we are being kind of ushered out into um, you know, the quote unquote spotlight. And I believe it's to give permission to others who maybe don't feel like they're eloquent or they don't have like the perfectly put together, you know, platform type thing, right? Um, and the Lord was, you know, said my word this year, the first word for this year was speak. So when she asked me, everything in me, and maybe this is gonna speak to somebody else, and I know it resonates with you too, potentially, but like my arms said no, my fingers said no, my eyes said no. Everything in me said no, but my mouth said yes because the Lord said, if it's in alignment, say yes. So immediately I said yes. And, you know, the day before it was just like getting pummeled. I I actually was not feeling well. It didn't allow me to give like extra time to um, you know, sit with the message that I was going to do, but he just said, show up and just open your mouth. And um, it was a really freeing experience. And um, you know, it goes back to those of us, you know, out there who are given um this moment that maybe doesn't make sense, you know, just say yes, be obedient to that call. Um, so I want to like segue. I I just wanted to like put my own, you know, testimonial out there about um few. And before I segue, um could you just share like when when do we meet? And how can people learn more about it? Um, maybe the website to to hear more.
Meetings, Website, And Speaker Training
SPEAKER_02Sure. So we meet the second Friday of every month at 8:30 in the morning in Roseville. And we go, we have to be out of the building by by 11. So we have to leave time for cleanup. But uh, so we have fellowship a little bit before the meeting starts. Meeting starts usually around 9, maybe a little bit before. Sometimes we have a speaker and sometimes uh it's just more of a discussion.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh this month coming up, Elisa Bell and I are going to be talking about uh Passover because of the Easter holiday. And uh so that will be this, I don't know what the date is on the the second Friday of April.
unknownYeah.
SPEAKER_02And then we also have an online meeting, which is the second Tuesday of every month. Um when I so the the website is twincities.thefewomen.com. And so that will get you to the Twin Cities webpage. Uh, we are also offering the speaker course, which is what got me into few initially. And so for few members, um, there it's heavily discounted, and that is going to be April 16th through 18th as a three-day training in person that's going to be in West St. Paul, and Kimberly Joy will be teaching that. And so that is a huge opportunity because that was life-changing for me. I had to go, I felt called into politics, and I was like, Are you crazy? I'm like, No, it is absolutely uh that's not, I can't do that. And so I I needed to get back into public speaking. And I thought I found this group, and that's how I um was introduced a few is through the through this the um public speaking course, which is phenomenal. And I met Nancy Major before that, and that's where I spent a lot of time with Kimberly Joy in the speakers course. So I've actually taken it twice because it's so good. Yeah. It is it is that good. And it is offered to the general public. The the retail price of it is$19.99, but we do have an early bird special um through the 28th of March. You can use the code ERLYBERD, all one word, all capitals, to purchase that course. And I can give you the the link.
The Road Into Minnesota Politics
SPEAKER_00Absolutely. We'll be sure to um I'll be sure to put that in the show notes as well. So if you didn't catch the website as you're listening, be sure to check out the show notes and you can check out more. Um, well, thank you so much for sharing more about FU. I just feel like it's such a beautiful space. And there are other chapters um in the US, so definitely go check out that website. Um, but we really want to do a drum roll for where uh Heidi is being led specifically right now. So if you could just kind of lead us into, you know, you stepped into the um space, you know, the Lord called you into, and um where is he leading you specifically now in the political um mountain of influence?
SPEAKER_02Yes. So that going on the whole obedience theme, it often is um uncomfortable. So when God calls you into something, finding out, like, is this really, is this really where I'm being led? Uh is am I making this up or am I really hearing um from God? And confirmation after confirmation, I was being put into the political arena uh starting in 2024, um with running for office, but even before that in 2023, after I felt called, I was appointed to a task force and not just any task force, a task force that had our health and human services secretary and our attorney general as part of it. And so I got a front row seat of uh how inefficient government operates. And I I'm in leadership in the my corporate role. I wanted to take over the task force because it was it was not moving forward very quickly. And I had to um I had to take a step back because I was uh kind of shunned when I was uh saying, hey, we this would be the path forward to get to solutions. Let's focus on solutions instead of only on the problem.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And um, so that led to a lot of frustration for me knowing how much money we pay in uh taxes on a yearly basis. And you know, every time you buy something, and just Minnesota is an expensive place to be. It is and um in 2024, I was running um for a house seat in my district, didn't end up getting on the ballot in 2024, but I did a lot of door knocking, and there was so much grace in moving forward um in that realm. And then I just put it out of my mind. I went back, really focused on my job, and uh put put the political call out of my mind, and then it came roaring back in 2025 with a friend telling me you this is the time. And he said, you know, you have to go to a BPOU meeting. And I who knows what a BPOU is? It's a it's the Republicans best kept secret. More people need to know so they can go get involved if they don't like what's going on. You need to you need to get involved in the grassroots, and um with that, I said I was going to run for a representative, the representative position in my district. And um Through connections through few with Elisa Bell, she connected me with Dan Witherington. He's part of Restore Minnesota. He and I connected and he told me I needed to speak with this individual. And I'd already been speaking with his wife. So when I went to go meet with him, he asked me to run for Senate.
SPEAKER_01Okay.
SPEAKER_02And um I had when I was running for when I was putting together everything to run for the representative position, it just didn't quite feel right. I like I'm like, oh, you know, I'm not sure if this is what I'm supposed to be doing. And then when um I was running when I was asked to run for Senate, it just felt right. And then having the confirmation from God saying, yeah, this is where we need you to be.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Uh I went forward with that. There was another young woman running for the same endorsement for the Senate and very talented, gifted young lady. And at the last minute, she pulled out.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02So the day of the convention, I was at my table, it was actually right next to hers. And there was a young man who was a delegate who said he was going to support me. And I said, Hey, I thought you were going to support me. And he said, I am. I said, but you're you're at Avery's table. And he said, Oh, I know she's running for house. I'm like, her what? So that was right at that last minute. Um the waters parted and the just the over the overwhelming feeling of this is happening.
SPEAKER_01Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02This is where I'm being led. And I turned to my husband, I'm like, are you ready for this? That's a great question. Yeah. It's like I I wasn't expecting to get the the nomination. I'm I'm I've been an outsider uh in the political realm and new on the scene. And so I I went up and I gave my speech. I made a joke about politicians.
SPEAKER_00And now you got to tell us what it is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I I opened with uh politicians are like seagulls, they make a lot of noise, they drop loads of crap, and steal your treasure.
SPEAKER_01Oh, yeah, and I'm not a politician.
SPEAKER_02I'm just trying to um take my leadership skills and bring them to government because we need someone who can lead and who can negotiate because we there's a lot of um gridlock in government right now. And um I think we need to work together just as I feel that we've talked about this in the past, we need more unity, yeah, especially in the church as Christians, no matter what denomination you are, we need to have more unity within um Christians going out and be focused on being the hands and feet of Jesus. And I think that's been missing from from uh church circles. There are some that do it really well, just like we have um superstars and in every arena. Uh, I think that we just need to be more focused on the goal versus um what makes us different when we focus on what connects us.
Division, Unity, And Common Ground
SPEAKER_00That's so good. And even, you know, crossing that over into the political realm too, right? Because there's so much division and so I mean it's it's a tactic of the enemy, of course.
SPEAKER_01Yes.
SPEAKER_00Um, but how would you like what would you speak to that? Because you know, you've you've stepped into um, you know, Republican. And even as you know, our world is uh very divided in relation to Republican and Democrats, and you know, how does that um kind of add in and into this step of obedience? Because um, you know, we're we're in Minnesota, it's it's very different. I'll I'll let you kind of go on a little tangent with whatever you'd like to share on that.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So I believe that the majority of Minnesotans are have share common ground. And I believe that there's 80% of us who really have very similar views. And there are some that are on the fringes. And I I believe we need to come together to get uh to get Minnesota back to that North Star state. We were a diamond in the Midwest. Uh, like our education system was one of the best in the nation. Now we're among the we're in the bottom. And so there's a lot of things that have been lost. And my daughter is going to have a baby this summer, and I'm thinking about my granddaughter and what is what is her life going to look like. And we have more common ground than we than we um differ on topics. So if we come together with that common ground, we can have a more prosperous future for everybody, not just um we have the the loudest voices, which may not have um the most support, but they're the loudest. And I don't I think we need to to include those voices that are afraid to speak up because uh there's so much division, and you're it's so uncomfortable to be pigeonholed with this this party or that party, and um, because they each come with names. And so we need to come together and work as uh Minnesotans for a brighter future instead of um tearing each other down and uh pulling each other apart because that's that the house divided falls. Yes, absolutely. And we need to come together to support one another, to support our neighbors, even if they're blue or if they're red. We we it doesn't matter, we're still people, we all believe the same color. And so we need to find that common ground. And I think that's what's been missing from politics and to have that common sense or legislation and hold leaders accountable for the decisions that they make. And if I'm stepping into this position, I'm going to be held accountable too. So it's not just for them, it's it's for all of us. And what can I bring to the table to help us um to help Minnesota help that star rise again?
SPEAKER_00Yes, so good. Um, you know, I I just know like you bring so much to the table, and just even this first step of obedience back, you know, years ago. You you said yes, you stepped in, um, and it's been, you know, stepping stone, stepping stone. I almost even as you were saying that, you know, the the gal that stepped down, it was almost like I was seeing you as Esther, you know, when she walked in to come before the king, right? It was just it's this moment of stepping in, even though you you may not know what it's gonna look like, but you know that there's gonna be deliverance and freedom through your yes. Would you agree?
SPEAKER_02I would agree 100%. Um with this kind of funny that you said my yes. I I'm part of a book that's a compilation of authors called The Power of Yes. And it's my conversion story, and the reason why I didn't want to go into politics in the first place is in that book. Um, but it is my yes to Jesus and how growing up as a Jew and how he's been there the whole time. And he's been preserving me from the decisions that I had made and and keeping me um from the consequences I should have had. I probably should be dead.
SPEAKER_00Quite frankly. You and me both, right? Yeah.
Why Obedience Feels So Uncomfortable
SPEAKER_02And so that the power of yes comes out next week, I believe. Okay. I can get you that link as well. But it's uh a stories of women saying yes to God and how that has changed their life. And that step of obedience brings reward, and it's rarely comfortable. So say that again for somebody who didn't hear you the first time. Obedience is not comfortable.
SPEAKER_00What does it feel like? Like tangibly, what does it like viscerally feel like? Um I would love for you to share what it feels like.
SPEAKER_02Mind, body, spirit. Yes. So when you are when you're in that comfort zone, you're it's predictable and you know what each day is going to bring. But when you step out of that, that's that time of stretching. Is when you're in those times that are are completely um uh uncomfortable, unknown. Um, you don't know what that next step is going to be because you feel like you're walking in the dark and there's a bunch of Legos on the floor and you don't want to step on it. Uh so it's it's this step of faith. Like I think of the Indiana Jones movie, you know, when he is he's going across that bridge and he's he throws the uh the gravel so he can see it. But he just had to take that step of faith, yeah, see that next step. And that's really what it's like. It's like you okay, I'm going. And you have to have that confidence that you God's gonna catch you and he's gonna give you that next step, just one at a time, and it's that blind faith and obedience that gets you to the goal. It's rarely the I'm gonna stay comfortable in my life and um get to where you've been called, because that you're God's calling you higher, and you can't get higher if you stay in your comfort zone.
SPEAKER_00So good. Oh my gosh. Well, and I I would love just even in bringing in another element to it, because I know like a lot of times, just women that I've talked to, people on here, um, you know, when you take these crazy steps of obedience, you know, you're probably gonna have people that are gonna be like, what are you doing? Who do you think you are? Like, have you experienced that a lot?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I have. And I it's you know, my my mother-in-law told me I was ambitious, and I don't think it's it's not my ambition. Um it's that I'm being called to this place, and God doesn't call the equipped, he equips the called. And I am walking forward and trusting that he's going to give me what I need to complete the race that he's called me to. Whether or not I win, it's uh it's inconsequential. Of course, I would like to win, but going through the journey is where the the stretching happens and where the um where you get elevated into your next step. And so I that's where I am right now. I'm in that stretching season.
SPEAKER_01Yeah.
SPEAKER_02And just try to figure out how to get everything done and um do it well.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, you're amazing. Um, so on the flip side, you know, uh as being part of few and having other women and just people in your life, like, wouldn't you say it's amazing to have people that are gonna be speaking that opposite spirit of encouragement, like the people who really actually see they they they hear that same like go heidi. Like, you know what I'm saying? Like, cause I think there's a lot of people out there that, you know, maybe they have this like wild call from the Lord to step into something, but they maybe don't have a lot of support. Maybe even their own spouse is like, you know, not even understanding. What would you say to that?
SPEAKER_02I would say uh I would not be able to do this without the women that I've met in the past two years of my life. Um, they it's really God has prepared the way by bringing women into my life that support me and speak life into me and um and our intercessors as well to to pray for me along this journey. And there it's and it's a two-way street because I I feel called to to pour into their lives and to pray for them and to help them along their way, to connect them with others that can help them in their own journey. And it it's it's a beautiful exchange of uh resources and um and just that that love of Jesus, of how Jesus calls us to love one another. It it's few really has elevated um that call in many women's lives on on pouring into one another. And let's let's cross that finish line together.
Scriptures, Support, And How To Connect
SPEAKER_00Amen. Well, what is your like guiding um scripture in this um step of obedience, specifically in the pro political realm? Do you have a verse that's really guiding you on this journey?
SPEAKER_02I I probably have so many. Yeah. Um But the Joshua 1 9, what we were talking about earlier before we got on the podcast, that one has been um one that that uh I've been leaning on to. And then also uh I'm not sure the um the verse off the top of my head as far as where it is, but word god has those he has um called, he has ordained and justified. Um I can't remember the exact scripture because I that's not my strong suit.
SPEAKER_01So yeah, it's okay.
SPEAKER_02But um if I have it here somewhere, but that one is one that I've turned back to because believing that God has called you and that he's chosen you for something, it is like help my unbelief. I I rely on that a lot. Uh it's Romans 8:30. And those he threw destined, he also called. Those he called, he also justified, and those he justified, he also glorified. And um and then Judges 6.14 with Gideon was another verse and Ephesians 3.20. Yes, that's a good one.
SPEAKER_00Those are power-packed verses for your journey. Um I encourage all of you to to grab some as you're journeying on, listeners. Well, um, we're gonna wrap up, but I would love for you to um first of all share like what is the best way for people to get in touch with you specifically if they have questions, um, want to hear more about your journey, support you. Um, maybe even the question is like, how can even people locally or even non-locally support you in this? Um, what would that answer be?
SPEAKER_02Sure. My website is heidihaino.com. And they you can email me directly, heidi at heidihaino.com, and um H-E-I-N-O is the spelling in the of the last name. But that has my uh my platform, there's ways to donate because that's how the political realm runs is on off donations. So I'm getting used to setting up fundraisers and asking for donations. And um, and if anyone would love to pray, that I am open to prayer because that's um that's a currency that I definitely need.
SPEAKER_00Amen. So good. Well, Heidi, you are amazing, and I'm so thankful you've been able to just share. I feel like we need to have you back on to even do like a part two, um, maybe the next few months. Um, as we close today, I would love for you to just think of um somebody listening in today. And is there anything else that you'd like to share with them? Some you know, words of encouragement, and then would you pray us out? Sure.
SPEAKER_02I would say for uh an in an individual that they're questioning their call to go to scripture and uh that God's gonna confirm it for them to whether or not to move forward and just to be steeped in God's word, because some of us hear God audibly as or are knowing, I guess is the best way to say it. And others of us, we get our our answers through scripture. And that's where I lie most of the time is getting answers through scripture. So I would just call them to get in the word and don't forget to keep reading the word. Devotionals are wonderful, but get into deep into the word and um uh really hear from him.
Prayer And Final Blessing
SPEAKER_00So good. Such a huge key, right? Yes, yes, amen. Well, would you pray us out? Yeah, I just love everything you've shared so far.
SPEAKER_02Well, Father, I just I'm so thankful for today. The sun is shining, we haven't seen it uh past couple days, but uh thank you for your spring. Thank you for Kristen, thank you for what she's doing and how she uh is revealing uh how you work in this world and the seeds that you are planting. Uh Lord, we just thank you for this time together, and we just ask for this the seeds to be dropped in fertile soil, Lord, that they may take root and grow. We praise you for all that you've done and all that you continue to do. And we just thank you for the peace that you're going to bring to our state and to this nation. We praise you, Jesus, and in your name we pray. Amen.
SPEAKER_00Amen. Thank you so much, Heidi, for being a brave voice who's setting so many free. Um, again, be sure to check out the show notes. And I, like I said, I would love to have you back again sometime. And I will be back with another episode next week. Thanks, listeners. Have a good one.
