Speaker 1:

Welcome to the Golden Hour Birth Podcast, where we navigate the transformative journey of birth stories, aiming to empower and heal. I am your co-host, liz, and I'm your co-host, natalie. We are passionate birth advocates and we're doulos in training. We're exploring the depths of birth experiences. We're offering insights and guidance and a pathway to reclaiming your narrative. In today's episode, we're going to be talking about how revisiting and processing our birth stories can help navigate unresolved emotions, rediscover inner strength and foster empowerment. So if you found yourself sitting with unresolved emotions about your births, please tune into today's episode. Oh, and, before we get into the show, we've got a new course coming out soon on how to process your birth story. At the end of the show, we'll tell you how you can enroll in our course 50% off.

Speaker 1:

The Golden Hour Birth Podcast, a podcast about real birth stories and creating connections through our shared experiences. Childbirth isn't just about the child. It's about the person who gave birth, their lives, their wisdom and their empowerment. We're Liz and Natalie, the Golden Hour Birth Podcast, and we're here to laugh with you, cry with you and hold space for you. So today we are talking about our new course and why we started it and how it came about we? Obviously we are the hosts of the Golden Hour Birth Podcast and we host birth stories and in listening to lots of different birth stories and in coming to terms with our own birth stories, we've kind of realized that the impasse of sharing your birth stories can really just heal and make sense of what happened. I feel like so many of us have a plan but then that plan can really go haywire. And I know for myself going through a postpartum anxiety which I know that we've heard myself talk about before, but Liz's Instagram post on that was a little bit of a mess Going through a postpartum anxiety which I know that we've heard myself talk about before. But Liz's Instagram post on that Mother's Day of 2021, right after I had Wes, was honestly the most. It just calmed me down so much because I was feeling everything that she was feeling on her early days of postpartum with Arthur and it was just like oh wow, I'm not the only one going through this, they don't have to do this alone. And then with I don't even think I've said this before, but I've had postpartum rage really bad after I'd violent like six months and it was really bad. And just knowing that I had other women who shared that they had postpartum rage on this actually made me feel like I'm not crazy, like this is all certifiably okay to feel yeah, for sure, and it's so. Not funny, it's not the right word but like when we have these like emotions or postpartum anxiety or rage or whatever, it's like when you start going to therapy and you get to the root of what that is. Yeah, you know, like obviously it's a lot of chemicals in our brains, but a lot of my postpartum anxiety went back to my birth story and obviously you can listen to our birth stories. Episode one, two, three and violets is in there. I think that's something there.

Speaker 1:

But you know, with my like retained placenta and having to be rushed upstairs, I was, I felt so out of control that those feelings, unprocessed, basically manifested me wanting to control everything. When Arthur was like I have these notebooks where I was writing down every ounce. I was pumping every ounce. I was feeding him, every ounce formula. I was feeding him. It was so much that I had tuned out my own intuition. I was just focused so much on the facts and researching online how many ounces should he be getting, how many ounces should I be pumping. I just did not end well when I finally realized this is not healthy.

Speaker 1:

And then, even later, even now, I still find myself in situations where I'm just like I am I feeling so anxious or why am I feeling like this or whatever it is? And it's like, oh, it's unprocessed birth, trauma and difficulties, and yeah, it just sits a lot. And I know for myself I'm really really good at gaslighting myself so I needed to make sure that the second time around was part of my health support for myself. So I ended up seeing my therapist three days before I had Violet and I'm so happy that I have her support. She doesn't even have kids, but she's just understanding and validating me, therapy and processing everything. Because although my birth was great, it was like pregnancy, postpartum, it all sucked more than it didn't.

Speaker 1:

So well, that's the thing about like a difficult birth or birth trauma or whatever label you want to give it. It can be such like something that you wouldn't expect. It's not just like your baby going to the NICU or having an unexpected C-section or emergency surgery. You know like those things are very traumatic, but there's like other things and even people who have had those type of traumas. It's also the little things that make the experience like much worse. It's not being listened to, having like a rude doctor, or getting your water broken without consent or you know, just like all these little things that come up, or in postpartum, where for me, like feeding difficulties and breastfeeding trauma and things like that, so there's just so much more to healing than like seeing a therapist, which is my number one advice for literally everybody.

Speaker 1:

But this course is definitely not a replacement for therapy, but it's but more so just to make you feel empowered that you and you know you and your baby did the right thing and you, you did the right thing with everything that you knew how to do. And just helping you get to a place where you feel okay. And you feel okay about what happened. Yeah, a lot of self forgiveness, self compassion, compassion yes, reclaim and reinterpret kind of what happened, like leading up to it and after. Yeah, and you know, with me personally, I had, I still had some unresolved emotions and and this course that we built is based off experience, plus, you know, research, and so in this course we want to give you the tools and guidance to unpack those emotions. We already talked about rediscovering your empowerment through self-compassion, self-forgiveness, yeah, just kind of having those tools to be able to start doing that, yeah, and lots of journaling exercises and breathing exercises that can just really help you get to a place of compassion for yourself and what happened.

Speaker 1:

Well, coping strategies for postpartum anxiety, postpartum range just wherever you're at now, even you know, like I don't consider myself in postpartum anymore, even though I am, but with toddlers it's a whole different, well, different bog it. And you'll be joining a supportive community who understands your journey. You know, not everyone has gone through your exact experience, but we've definitely all have shared pieces of that journey and we'd hope to do in-person here. So, st Louis girls, get after this, yeah. Yeah, we're going to have the digital course and then we're hoping to have, yeah, in-person classes. We'll have, like I don't know, 10 of us together just doing the work, doing the work, letting it in, putting the work, yeah, and Delence, if you want to share how you can, 50% off While we are still building the course like we have the course work, but we're still building it, making a lot of decisions.

Speaker 1:

We have a special offer for 10 people To join our course right now at 50% off, in exchange for about five minutes of your time each week for six weeks, where we'll just email you a quick survey where you'll be helping us with, like, do you like this chapter title or this chapter title better, or do you like, would you rather have more meditation practices for, you know, breathing exercise or something? It's just going to be like really simple things like that. But you know, if there's any other in-depth questions, we'll send those your way too, but it's only for six weeks and then, once the course comes out on March 18th, you will get a copy of the course and any bonus materials that we are including as well, so you can go to our link on the show notes or to our Instagram or our website and the link sorry, the discount code is presale. So, sure, I love it. And there's currently six baths left.

Speaker 1:

Yeah, only six. Currently. Just Laura. Yeah, wait to go along on this journey with you to the anniversary, and we'll continue to do some more episodes just like this, where we get more into depth about each module and we'll just maybe we'll do some meditation exercise then. So, yeah, but we'll still have birth stories, so don't worry about that. It's just so we'll see you next time.
