Authentically, Queerly Us

Straight Marriage -- Queer Widow

• Josina and Shell • Season 1 • Episode 24

Grief already sucks -- it's made more complicated when your life with grief is completely different, and the changes are... good.

This episode examines the trap of heteronormativity. The death of Shell's husband and father allowed them to finally attend college, learn about patriarchy and heteronormativity, and examine who they truly are outside of the norms that have been drowning her for her entire life.

This was recorded on September 30th, which is the wedding anniversary. Twenty-seven years after their wedding, everything about our life and who Shell is allowed to be is completely different. This is an episode for grief, but also questioning how to grieve when the old life seems, frankly, like hetero-patriarchy bullshit.

As always, our theme song is "Happy Sweet Piano" by ElectroAnimals.
