Authentically, Queerly Us

Queer Joy Lava

Josina and Shell Season 2 Episode 10

Ever looked back at your life and thought, "Damn..."?

It's always something to do a reading for school (in this case, "Medicalizing the Mexican" by Natalia Molina) and see your old life staring back at you! Realizing Art's acceptance into the white side of the family was conditional on his ability to do labor for them, realizing just how misogynistic both sides of the "family" are, and overall looking at how the whole cis-het way of life doesn't seem to be working for them.

Art's death was tragic, and we do miss him, but in many ways his death paved our path to liberation and freedom outside cis-hetero constructs.

We look back and worry for the heteros. Yes, we also use some knowledge from Jane Ward's book The Tragedy of Heterosexuality as we reflect on gratitude for the queer joy and freedom in our lives now!
