our prayers, that we should think about why we pray, the things we pray, and that we should think about where our prayers are leading, about where our prayers are leading. 00:04:31.639 --> morning we're going to move through some of Paul's prayers and I will show you something that I saw in his prayers that should have an influence and an impact on our prayer lives. 00:05:56.000 --> 00:06:04.512 After that we'll stop and focus on one specific prayer of his and break it down and dig into it. 00:06:04.512 --> 00:06:25.490 We're going to start by looking at five different prayers of the Apostle Paul as we see them in the scriptures, and what I'd like to see have you see is some specific and repeated thing that happens over and over again in a lot of Paul's prayers that we have recorded Not all of them, but in a lot. 00:06:25.490 --> 00:06:30.310 The first one is in the book of Ephesians, 1, 15 through 19. 00:06:30.310 --> 00:06:44.988 If you want to follow along, ephesians But the next two words is so that and we're going to continue to see this over and over again because Paul thinks about what he's praying. 00:07:45.232 --> 00:07:49.810 Paul doesn't just pray, he 00:13:37.956 And thinking that through, and I think it should affect our prayer lives, instead of being a basic praying for something simple, maybe we should pray for something simple for someone and then go why do I want them to have this, why do I want them to succeed at this, and where is that prayer leading? 00:13:37.956 --> 00:13:54.339 I'd like to take a look at one more of Paul's prayers and spend some time breaking it down, as I mentioned, looking at what Paul might be thinking and seeing how God could be using this to lead our prayers by way of example. 00:13:54.339 --> 00:13:58.677 that there was a believing church there in Colossae. 00:17:21.000 --> 00:17:25.212 He mentions it a few times in chapter 1. 00:17:25.212 --> 00:17:28.580 Paul also knew that there were many problems at the church in Colossae. 00:17:28.580 --> 00:17:38.500 There was some Jewish legalism mixing in with some Greek philosophy, smashed together with some Oriental mysticism. 00:17:38.500 --> 00:17:45.599 There was religious, dietary things going on, sabbath issues and even worship of some angels. 00:17:45.599 --> 00:18:08.305 There were believers there, but they were distracted by many things With all this going, on the occasion for the book, ryrie makes these comments that Paul set out to emphasize the significance of Christ as Lord of creation and the head of the church. 00:18:10.010 --> 00:18:24.442 That he set out asserting that any teaching or practice that distracts from the uniqueness or the centrality of Christ was against the faith that was his goal as he wrote the book of Colossians. 00:18:24.442 --> 00:18:51.307 Now, looking back at this passage from Colossians 1, 9, through, paul prays that they would be filled with the knowledge of his will in all
