Pokémon Presents: Format And Expectations

Something, something's going on, right? I couldn't tell you, but something's definitely going on. Uh, I was supposed to be off today in celebration of Pokemon Day, had a lot of fun things planned, ended up having to go to work, so that sucked. Uh but but more importantly, me going to work isn't the only thing that sucked today. It's it's time to talk about the Pokemon presents that what happened today and and the things that they did wrong and the things that they did right and the things that I'm excited about. Um Chris, I know so from texting you, it sounds like you knew about the the one thing that was released released. Do you know about the other stuff that got announced?

Okay. So the Pokemon Presents happens every year. For those of you that are not major Pokemon fans, happens every year on Pokemon Day. Uh, this is a presentation where they announce a bunch of new stuff for the year, uh, things that they're working on, projects, what have you. Um this is the 30th anniversary. To me, it should be a very big deal. Three decades of the Pokemon franchise. They seemed like they were making a really big deal out of it. There's been a lot of promotions going on, a lot of collaborations. The Pokemon Lego sets have come out. Um, they randomly announced they were putting Fire Red and Leaf Green on the Switch.

Mobile Updates: GO, Unite, Masters EX, Sleep

Um, no one saw that coming. But they went through all of their mobile stuff. Pokemon Go, it's 10-year anniversary of Pokemon Go. Pokemon uh Unite has some new stuff going on, some new events. There's some new characters coming over there. Uh Pokemon Masters EX has a fun event of nostalgia where they're bringing the character Red from 1996 into it. Um Pokemon Sleep has some stuff going on. So basically TCG Pocket. They went through all of their mobile stuff, right?

Then they announced finally a release date for Pokemon Gale of Darkness. Um, yes, you are correct sometimes. Uh Pokemon Gale of Darkness is coming to the Switch, which was an old GameCube uh game, and then you have Pokemon Coliseum, which was also an old GameCube game coming to the Switch. Those got announced when the Switch 2 came out almost a year ago to the date, and they uh they never said anything else about it. So now we have a release date, those are coming out in April. Um I'm sorry, in March. I'm sorry, not April, March. Then you have Pokemon Champions, which got announced last year. So it's been an entire year of oh, I'm sorry, two years ago. It got announced two years ago. They were supposed to be putting this out for the competitive season. Now that's coming in April. Doesn't make any sense to me. It should be already done and ready to go. Should come out already. Uh, but that's coming out in April. That is gonna be your competitive focused game. It's gonna be available on mobile and switch, so you can download it on your phone and play it from your phone. Chris, you and I are gonna be playing the hell out of that one. You can go on and uh you can instead of having to breed Pokemon now, you can just go on and create perfect Pokemon to get right into the competitive scene.

GameCube Returns: Colosseum & Gale Of Darkness Dates

Well, the the fun part of it is you're gonna be able to pull Pokemon from Pokemon Home. So you're gonna be able to pull your actual Pokemon into it if you want, but you are going to be able to just jump in immediately. Let's say that we're like hanging out and you know, we're like, ah, I just want to play a quick match. You know what I mean? It's basically Pokemon Stadium from back in the day, but a completely updated revamped version.

Um, yeah, but what sucks about that though is is playing competitively, like I might have spent 25 hours trying to get mine, you know, through breeding, training, you know, move sets, working out the kinks. And then somebody just comes along and boop boop. Yeah, yeah, I mean, true, true.

Pokémon Champions Explained And Debated

Um, the the cool thing though is gonna be that we can just immediately jump in. We can just immediately jump in and start playing like a competitive match with like they're taking all of the generational gimmicks, so like mega evolution, gigantamax, uh, Z crystals, um, terastalization. Uh, I'm sure I'm forgetting something, but they're taking all of that and putting it into the game, so you'll be able to be like on your toes more because you won't know what you're going against. You know what I mean? You could have somebody that has a Charizard, and you don't know if that's gonna be a mega Charizard or a Gigantamax Charizard or a Tarastalized Charizard. You know, it's gonna be this real or a Z crystal Charizard, it's gonna be this really cool like concept of taking everything from the last 30 years and putting it into a game where you can truly dive into the competitive scene. It does make it more accessible, which is huge. Um, and it looks really fun. The the graphics look good, you know, they they look like standard Pokemon graphics. Um my only issue is the release dates through this whole thing is my only issue. The release dates on everything. Uh so Pokemon Champions is supposed to come out in April. So you have the old GameCube games coming out in March. You have Champions coming out in April, then you have Pokopia, which will be coming out uh next week, which is exciting. That game's gonna be phenomenal, it's gonna be awesome. It looks like Animal Crossing meets Pokemon, it looks super, super fun. I know Taylor is super stoked about that game.

Pokopia Preview And Why It Hooks Us

Um, so that game I'm gonna put so much time into. But again, the release date. Well, that one comes out next week. But they they announced that game last year. Like this this presents was 25 minutes, and they spent 15 minutes recapping things that they announced last Pokemon Day. So it's like we did all of this for a three-minute trailer at the end. At the very end, the newest generation of Pokemon got announced, guys. Pokemon wins and waves. Generation 10 is officially wins and waves? Wins and waves. And they they showed off the starters. Um, I'm gonna pull up a picture of that real quick.

Generation two, also super iconic, classic, incredible designs. I thought gen three was a little more modern, but still incredible designs. Four was good, five was okay. Six, I felt like they came back. That's with um Greninja, um, who's the other one in six? Greninja, Finnekin, and Chespin. I felt like six was okay, and then seven, I felt like they knocked it out of the park. Seven was Litton, um, Rowlett, and Paplio. I felt like those, I felt like those three evolutionary lines were perfect all the way through because then you ended up with Incineroar, um, Decidui, and Primarina. Three incredible designs.

They release that today, but they release it as if it's 2004. There's no online capability, so I can't even trade with Taylor or you unless we're in person. You can transfer to home, but you can't transfer from home to Fire Red and Leaf Green.

Starter Design History: Gens 1–9 Favorites And Misses

Then then, on top of all of that, because you can't transfer, there are certain Pokemon that just are unobtainable because the way the games were made back then had bugs in them that they didn't fix. So Umbreon and Espeon are two Pokemon that are in the Pokedex, but they are unobtainable. You can't even get them because there's no day-night cycle in the game, it has no internal clock, so it doesn't know what time it is, so they can't evolve. And you can't transfer them in. There's no way to complete the Pokedex. It's the first time in history that you literally cannot complete a Pokedex, it's impossible.

Then, on top of that, they released these games. I don't know if you remember, Chris, but there was a thing called like the Eon ticket, and there was one for like Rebirth Island that you could get from taking your game to like a GameStop or a Toys R Us, and you would take it in there and they would upload it into your game for you. They just didn't put that in these.

So what I would like to do eventually in some at some point in time of my life is have one of every Mewtwo card. Taylor that's a very nice Mewtwo um typhlosion holds a special place in my heart we've all talked about Typhlosion several times on this show um but annihilate is a new favorite of mine I ran through Scarlet and Violet like four times and every time I couldn't imagine doing it without an annihilate the rage fist attack is so freaking broken like you can just run through that game with an annihilate it's crazy. It's like getting a Lucario in Pokemon black and white like Lucario you can get a Lucario super early on in the game and you can pretty much just run through the entire game like it's crazy.
