Bronagh has spent a month settling into her new, very rushed marriage to Cairbre, whom she knew in childhood but has not seen since. Her grandmother, Ealga, had two intentions for the marriage:
1. To protect Bronagh from Seamus, a seer (or Sibyl) in their own tribe, who threatened to kill Bronagh out of fear that she would fulfill his terrifying prophecy.
2. To broker peace between the Innis tribe and the rival tribe of which Cairbre is a part, the Gheardaig.
