Sep 12, 2023 Episode 44
Gigi Vera Vincent

Listen in as we engage in a meaningful conversation with Shamiesha Ebhotemen, RN, wife, mother, and founder of HERStory, Inc. Shamiesha shares her journey, highlighting the experiences that led her to build HERStory, Inc, a nonprofit dedicated to creating a safe and inclusive space for BIPOC birthing families. She opens up about the lack of representation and resources for families of color in Orange County hospitals, the alarming rates of maternal mortality in the Black community, and how her organization is working to bridge these gaps.

This episode brings to light the critical role of equity and representation in healthcare, especially for birthing families of color. We explore HERStory, Inc's initiatives, including their DULA program, Birth Women OC, which provides cost-effective support to BIPOC birthing families. This is an eye-opener for anyone interested in maternal health, equity in healthcare, and the power of community-based support.

Join us as we learn more about the inspiring work HERStory, Inc is doing and how you can get involved.

In this episode, Shamiesha and I discuss

  • Why does HERstory, Inc exist?
  • What do you offer the community?
  • What can birth workers do to support HERstory?
  • What can other birthing people do to support Black birthing people?
