Let's Get Regional, Regional...MPOs with Ellen Zavisca
Metropolitan Planning Organizations are an important partner in the transportation planning world. But, not everyone is familiar with they responsibilities and overall roll. Ellen Zavisca is the Transportation Planning Manager for AMPO, where she coordinates their interest group webinars and administers the ActivitySim model. Prior to taking that position, she served as staff at the MPO in Knoxville, TN, for 18 years where her focus as an MPO planner was on safety for all modes of transportation, multimodal planning, Safe Routes to School, and the health impacts of transportation. Her projects have included creating multiple pedestrian and bicycle plans; building databases and maps of traffic crashes in the Knoxville region; and rejuvenating the Great Smoky Mountains Regional Greenway Council. She is certified by the League of American Bicyclists as a bicycle safety instructor and is a member of the Association of Pedestrian and Bicycle Professionals. She has a master’s degree in urban planning from University of Illinois-Chicago. Take a listen and you will learn all aboout the world of MPOs.
