Freedom to Be Yourself
Aloha and welcome to the sobriety rocks podcast, I’m your host, Kirk Waterman. Today we talk about Freedom to Be Yourself
I did everything when I was a little kid. I would laugh, play, sing, dance, run, jump, read, write, learn, create, and so much more. It didn’t matter what I did, I was free to be myself.
But at some point, other people started trying to control me, and I began losing that freedom. Thank goodness I was introduced to drugs, alcohol, parties, sex, and all that wonderful teenage wildness. They were like a pressure release valve and allowed me to reclaim my freedom, even if only temporarily.
Unfortunately, I drank and used far more than needed, and in no time at all, I couldn’t find any freedom, no matter how much I drank or used. It was only then that the universe opened, and I landed in the rooms of recovery.
Here I found people who had lost their freedom just like me. But had regained it by doing all the unity, recovery, and service of the 12-step program. So, I did what they did, and I too, regained many of the things I had lost, including the freedom to be myself.
If you’ve lost your freedom, or you’re not as free as you’d like to be, don’t give up! The freedom you seek is right here, in the rooms of recovery, waiting for you to reclaim it.
Today we close with a brief meditation to set yourself free. So please, get comfortable, close your eyes, take a few slow, deep breaths, and join me.
