You are rushing every morning to get the kids ready, feed them breakfast and head off to work. You settle into your desk only to feel bad that you were five minutes late again and have an inbox full of emails. There's always something from you that's needed and you have five different projects that have important due dates this week and, before you know it, you are rushing out to drive your kids to activities, get dinner started and get their homework started, all the while you keep telling yourself tonight, tonight will be the night I will treat myself to a nice skincare routine, I will finally get back to that nighttime routine that I used to have, only to end up exhausted at 10 pm and having to doze off while scrolling through Instagram. And then, guess what, you get up the next day and it's once again repeat mode. If this is you, it is time for some healthy boundary settings. Let me show you how to do that. Hello, and thank you for tuning in today to self-care and pink heels, the place for every mom to get helpful self-care tips and feel fashionably great.
Speaker 1:On this journey, let's dive in. First and foremost, you have to learn to understand your own physical, mental and emotional limits. The best way to do this is to think about what is your point of burnout. At what point do you feel like you've completely exhausted yourself. There's nothing left to give? What does it look like when you are completely overwhelmed, feeling stuck and full of stress? You know that point. Do you start to get sick often? Do you start to scream at your kids? Think about what it looks like for you to not be at your best possible self. Now, take that information and think about what would you need to do before getting to that point. What kind of self-care practices would help you stay away from complete exhaustion? Once you know that, implement pieces of that into your life. If it means that you need a little bit more sleep, if it means that you need to adjust your kids bedtime to get that extra 15 minutes of sleep, that will make all the difference. That's what I want you to think about. Think about how to get that additional support that is within your means, to create that boundary. So get to it. Start thinking about what are those limits and what do you need before you get to that point.
Speaker 1:Next, I want you to conduct an inventory of situations or things in your life that you are doing out of obligation and not because you actually enjoy these things. Visit that you attend every PTA meeting because you are afraid to be that mom. Yet you know that you have zero time to go to these meetings and you know that you will eventually see a summary of the agenda items by email in a few days. Think about it. What does it mean to be that mom? Anyway, it means nothing. You and only you know what is going on in your life, what limits you have, what responsibilities you have. You and your family know best. Don't worry about what others might think.
Speaker 1:So, thinking about that, what does it mean for you to be as healthy as possible for the sake of your children when faced with something or someone that is asking you to commit to additional things that require time you do not have?
Speaker 1:Try asking yourself the following two questions Is this kind and is this something healthy for me to take on? And follow it by the next question Is it kind or healthy for my child, for me to take on this additional obligation? Thinking back to step number one of your limits for burnout, what does it mean to take on this additional obligation? Will it lead you to burnout? Would it lead you to be unhealthy? Will it lead you to be more exhausted and do all those things that you don't want to do? Become all those feelings that are negative in your life and you don't want or need. So remember my fellow mom. Boundaries don't have to be about saying no. All that means is that you adjust your life and you organize your plate in such a way that it is balanced and helps you be a better and more peaceful mom. And finally, here's your fashion self-care tip of the week Sport a nice, fun, bright colored pedicure.
