Are you an inch over at heart but find it difficult to have this personality type as a mom? Do you find it difficult to have to socialize more than necessary due to your busy child's life? Well, if you're wishing you could retreat into a darkened room on most days, I'm telling you that this episode is the one for you. Let's dive in for some helpful self-care tips. Hello, and thank you for tuning in today to Self-Care in Pink Heels, the place for every mom to get helpful self-care tips and feel their most beautiful self on this journey. Let's dive in. Well, let me give you some helpful tips on how to thrive as an introverted mom.
Speaker 1:First of all, I want you to identify how much time a day you need to thrive. I personally need a moment for prayer, reflection, spirituality and gratitude, and if you're a deep thinker, like I am, I need time to meditate or to just watch a good old sitcom such as Friends. That will give you some form of a break from your brain and having to use it. I make sure that I get an hour in the morning time all to myself. I know that this time will always be completely uninterrupted, because I get up at five and everybody else gets up around 6.30. And this is enough for me to practice all my self-care rituals in the morning time. In addition to that, I make sure to get 30 minutes at least in the evening, just to be. I admit it is a bit easier for me now that my kids are older and are in bed before us, but it hasn't always been that way. I've also had to take advantage of the time that my kids spend with my husband and finding quiet moments around that time and when there hasn't been anybody around, I would involve the kids in my quiet time. I would explain the importance of silence and it helped to play games around silence with them as well, and when they were too little to understand, I had them enjoy some playtime, doing some painting activity or drawing or something fun that they really enjoyed. That could entertain them for at least 10 minutes, and I just sat in the room with them and just rested, and that was enough for me to feel refreshed.
Speaker 1:So take note of what it looks like for you to thrive as an introvert. What is it that you need as far as solitude and alone time, how much and how often? And start there with them being in school. Now activities will pick up and in preparation for that, it is so important to be able to ensure that you get the space for solitude as an introvert, so I want you to consider each event thoroughly and identify how much time you can dedicate to each event. For example, not too long ago we had one day when there were two birthday parties in the morning to attend and then we had some kind of like dinner in the evening.
Speaker 1:It was so much to do on just one day I myself probably would have made the decision to attend only one event that day, but I understand how important it is for my children to attend multiple events of the people they know and they love and they enjoy being around, and so I discussed the timeframe with them and I let them know that can attend both events. But we kind of ran through okay, this is what it'll look like and this is how much time we can spend at each event, so that they know ahead of time what to expect, and I know that I'm also tailoring the timeframe around what's healthy for me. This helps with avoiding tantrums, avoiding children being upset and then also getting the time in that you need to rest and relax before attending, you know the next event. I also ensure that on such a heavy day like this that I made moments for mental breaks and silence so that I could replenish my mental energy, because, as an introvert, being around large groups of people can be mentally exhausting. The other piece of the coin for me is that I am also a highly sensitive person, meaning that I absorb a lot of energy around me and because of that I needed a little bit of additional time to recoup and feel re-energized. I can explain what a highly sensitive person is in an upcoming episode, so stay tuned for that.
Speaker 1:Lastly, as an introvert, you also thrive in having meaningful relationships. That means you know having this like special quality time with people that are the most closest to you, so give yourself plenty of moments that are more intimate and full of quality time with the people that you love and enjoy. Spend time talking to your close friends, connecting and sharing meals with the people that fill your cup. I know that when I am sharing a good cup of coffee with my besties, I feel so recharged and I hope this helps you too. Now remember my fellow mom. Being an introverted mom doesn't mean you have to shy away from events, and it doesn't mean that you have to put yourself through exhausting activities either. All it means is that you have to get to know your own limits of how much you can take on before needing some alone time to recharge. I hope this week's tips are helpful for you so you can keep on being your most peaceful mom self.
Speaker 1:Now for your fashion self-care tip of the week. Get ready with some cute sneakers to carry around in your car that you can transition into from your work day to driving your kids around to their activities. I don't know about you, but I cannot run around in heels while trying to help one child change into karate clothes and the other run on a slippery floor to make it to swim class. Nor do I want to. So get some fun sneakers, make them in your favorite color, or just simply find the comfort and enjoy. Enjoy every moment of motherhood.
