today we're going to be talking about the gift of healing and it's so exciting to talk about because I've seen a lot of healings and I wanted to share with some of those with you this morning. 00:00:39.121 --> 00:00:43.347 I got to see my first healing when I was 16 years old. 00:00:43.347 --> 00:00:51.810 Many of you may not know that my mom had a brain aneurysm bust and spent months in the hospital when I was 16 years old. 00:00:51.810 --> 00:00:56.270 She had two open brain surgeries and a full like cut the skull open the whole nine yards. 00:00:56.270 --> 00:00:59.942 But before the second one I told the doctor. 00:00:59.942 --> 00:01:04.724 I said you need to go back and you need to retest because I really believe that my mom is healed. 00:01:04.724 --> 00:01:09.629 And, of course, how doctors do, it's just a 16-year-old boy, he doesn't know anything. 00:01:09.629 --> 00:01:13.331 And so they went into the surgery. 00:01:13.331 --> 00:01:14.653 They cut her skull open. 00:01:14.653 --> 00:01:20.596 They dug around for four hours and closed her back up and come out to me and said I wish I would have listened to you. 00:01:20.596 --> 00:01:28.584 There was no aneurysm, we could have not have had that surgery, but God healed her and it was an amazing thing to see. 00:01:28.584 --> 00:01:30.608 So I already knew it then. 00:01:31.290 --> 00:01:34.486 And then, a few years later, I was at Trinity at the old building over here. 00:01:34.486 --> 00:01:36.933 Our pastor was Steve Fado. 00:01:36.933 --> 00:01:40.908 We would have seen different miracles, but this was a really cool one. 00:01:40.908 --> 00:01:46.986 I was up front praying with Pastor Steve and somebody came up to him and said someone just died in the back. 00:01:46.986 --> 00:01:51.081 There's a nurse that just verified that she's been dead for a few minutes. 00:01:51.081 --> 00:01:53.989 And he said not in my church, she's not. 00:01:53.989 --> 00:02:05.492 And we all ran to the back and I remember seeing the little nurse that she was like had the lady's head in her lap and she's, you know, checking her pulse and um, and she was dead. 00:02:05.492 --> 00:02:24.008 And Steve started praying, for a number of us gathered around, lay hands on her and pray for her healing and within a few moments she took a deep breath and I got to see the nurse's face as her face just went to shock of the pulse came back after like five minutes. 00:02:24.008 --> 00:02:31.250 So by the time the ambulance got there, they just nonchalantly took her to the hospital to see what was going on, you know. 00:02:31.250 --> 00:02:35.527 And so God brought her back to life, right there in front of us. 00:02:36.409 --> 00:02:44.800 There was another time where I was on a mission trip and we were standing up front, we were praying for people and this person came up in a wheelchair. 00:02:44.800 --> 00:02:53.991 And we were standing up front, we were praying for people and this person came up in a wheelchair and they couldn't walk their whole life because one leg was shorter than the other, and not a little bit, but enough to where you couldn't walk. 00:02:53.991 --> 00:02:59.044 And I got to be in the presence noticing this happen as others are praying for him. 00:02:59.044 --> 00:03:02.031 His leg grew and he got up and walked. 00:03:02.031 --> 00:03:09.532 That day A couple of years ago, you guys may have remembered when I told you about my story in Tanzania. 00:03:10.360 --> 00:03:16.164 I'm praying for an old, blind man with seven wives, but he got saved. 00:03:16.164 --> 00:03:24.288 He got saved and it was such a beautiful thing as he got saved and he called all his family over and he says all you need to know about this, jesus. 00:03:24.288 --> 00:03:42.286 And they all came and prayed and then they took him back to his room like, guided him back because he's blind, and all of a sudden I start hearing commotion, because I had started walking back to the van and I turned around and here's this older gentleman running straight at me, the blind man, running straight at me, and I'm like what is going on? 00:03:42.286 --> 00:03:44.883 And they said he says he sees, straight at me. 00:03:44.883 --> 00:03:45.764 And there's I'm like what is going on. 00:03:45.764 --> 00:03:48.348 They said he says he sees, he can see now, and so God saved his soul. 00:03:48.348 --> 00:03:51.014 You know, once was blind, but now I see, literally. 00:03:51.014 --> 00:04:02.709 He was once blind but now he sees such a beautiful thing, beautiful thing and uh, and so it's just amazing to see what God has done. 00:04:02.729 --> 00:04:06.921 I got another one when I was I bet this is about 13 years ago my first little guy was born. 00:04:06.921 --> 00:04:07.804 His name was Eli. 00:04:07.804 --> 00:04:14.026 We knew at a very like, we thought that the pregnancy was perfect, there was nothing there, but then he was born. 00:04:14.026 --> 00:04:25.372 He had some issues and so we spent two or three days every single week at the hospital and it came known that we were going to have to have a brain or a heart surgery and it was going to be one of many heart surgeries. 00:04:25.372 --> 00:04:40.091 So we took him to Vanderbilt and in the middle of this surgery he had a heart attack and they had to put him on life support, and so we prayed all throughout that night and that next morning I held my son as he took his last breath. 00:04:40.091 --> 00:04:48.273 Now I bring that up because I've seen God do miraculous healings. 00:04:48.273 --> 00:04:53.711 But then I've been in the very room as he didn't. 00:04:55.641 --> 00:04:56.927 And the question is is why. 00:04:56.927 --> 00:05:07.584 And that's the question that most of us have when something like this happens, because some of us have been taught certain ways and we believe it's supposed to be this way or believe that way. 00:05:07.584 --> 00:05:10.211 You know, we prayed with everything we had. 00:05:10.211 --> 00:05:14.334 I couldn't have mustered up another ounce of faith that God was going to heal. 00:05:14.334 --> 00:05:19.005 I just told you every story that I'd saw before that it was 00:05:51.562 --> 00:06:07.944 It was over six weeks ago, because this has been something to me that I have personally dealt with on the amazing, just incredible miracle side, but also in the he didn't answer as I wanted side, and something that I honestly wouldn't wish on the devil himself losing your child. 00:06:07.944 --> 00:06:20.100 My little boy was 10 months old, so when I think about what we were going to talk about today, I thought about something that is what most of us, like, have in our head most of the time. 00:06:20.100 --> 00:06:22.103 Listen, I was raised in a number of different denominations of churches. 00:06:22.103 --> 00:06:37.916 Listen, I was raised in a number of different denominations of churches, so I had so many forms of what I'm supposed to believe, how it's supposed to happen, what it's supposed to look like, and it wasn't until I walked through a lot of stuff that I came to what I believe today. 00:06:38.858 --> 00:06:45.406 And when I mention this next scripture, the scripture that we're going to focus on today, it's probably the scripture that's on most of our hearts and our minds. 00:06:45.406 --> 00:06:48.209 When we think about, when we talk about healing. 00:06:48.209 --> 00:06:50.511 You think about this scripture. 00:06:50.511 --> 00:06:53.795 Most of the time I actually wanted to see if that was true. 00:06:53.795 --> 00:06:58.249 So I asked a bunch of people over the last week when I said, healing, what do you think about? 00:06:58.249 --> 00:06:59.660 And they quoted this scripture. 00:06:59.660 --> 00:07:08.252 So I was like, all right, this is the one that we're going to talk about Now, just as a little bit of you know context here. 00:07:08.752 --> 00:07:11.055 This scripture I'm going to read is from the prophet Isaiah. 00:07:11.055 --> 00:07:15.370 Isaiah was a prophet given by God to his people. 00:07:15.370 --> 00:07:21.612 Every single one of the prophecies that this man wrote, all of them, came true. 00:07:21.612 --> 00:07:28.730 Every single one of them, to their deepest detail, like it was absolutely true. 00:07:28.730 --> 00:07:30.927 It wasn't a well, it might be like this. 00:07:30.927 --> 00:07:38.146 No, all of the prophecies that God gave to Isaiah in the vision that he wrote in Isaiah, all of them came true. 00:07:38.146 --> 00:07:43.591 And the one that we're going to read about here was five to 600 years before Jesus was born. 00:07:45.281 --> 00:07:51.908 And so we'll move on to Isaiah 53, 4, which is where this is at Isaiah 53, 4 and 5. 00:07:51.908 --> 00:07:59.415 Surely, he has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows, yet we have seen him stricken, smitten by God, and afflicted. 00:07:59.415 --> 00:08:03.786 But he was pierced for our transgressions and he was crushed for our iniquities. 00:08:03.786 --> 00:08:06.653 Upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace. 00:08:06.653 --> 00:08:09.906 And with his wounds we are healed. 00:08:09.906 --> 00:08:11.872 So let's pray about that. 00:08:11.872 --> 00:08:14.949 Lord, we just thank you so much that you give us the opportunity to be here. 00:08:14.949 --> 00:08:18.088 God, I just pray that you would use me as your puppet today. 00:08:18.088 --> 00:08:32.119 God, all I want to do is speak the words that you have, god, and I just pray that you'd touch each and every one of our hearts, lord, and prepare us, lord, for what you want to do in Jesus' name. 00:08:32.051 --> 00:08:38.048 So this scripture I found in a couple of other places in the New Testament, of course, the part there that everybody kept saying when I would come to them and say, hey, what scripture comes to mind? 00:08:38.048 --> 00:08:39.729 They say by his wounds we're healed. 00:08:39.729 --> 00:08:42.091 And so that was you know. 00:08:42.091 --> 00:08:44.191 Then I'm like, all right, which one are you talking about? 00:08:44.191 --> 00:08:48.452 You know, because in second Peter he said it, and in Matthew he mentioned it too. 00:08:48.452 --> 00:08:51.075 So which one are they talking about? 00:08:51.075 --> 00:08:54.735 And it brings up two schools of thought in this scripture. 00:08:54.735 --> 00:08:58.677 Now, I was taught both of them by at different points in my life. 00:08:58.677 --> 00:09:12.121 All right, in the first school of thought is in first, uh or 24. 00:09:12.142 --> 00:09:13.946 He said he himself bore our sins in his body on the tree that we might die to sin. 00:09:13.946 --> 00:09:15.870 Remember that word and live to righteousness. 00:09:15.870 --> 00:09:19.062 By his wounds you have been healed. 00:09:19.062 --> 00:09:29.090 So I had to look at the context of this, because this is one that even just this week, when I was talking to somebody, they said by his wounds you have been healed. 00:09:29.090 --> 00:09:36.990 And so I looked at the context of what Peter was saying and in the entire writing here Peter is clear. 00:09:36.990 --> 00:09:38.706 He's talking about sin. 00:09:39.941 --> 00:09:57.269 The whole entire section is on us being separated from God, needing a savior, and Peter is clearly in every way in this letter talking about how, by his wounds we have been healed, we've been given the opportunity for salvation. 00:09:57.269 --> 00:10:00.005 He has healed our eternal souls. 00:10:00.005 --> 00:10:05.164 Have it's done so concerning that section. 00:10:05.164 --> 00:10:10.750 So it led me down this whole long road and you can some of you in this room, I talked to you this. 00:10:10.750 --> 00:10:13.279 I actually had lunch with a couple of people. 00:10:13.279 --> 00:10:14.442 Multiple times. 00:10:14.442 --> 00:10:22.285 I talked to Neil and Tyler and Mark, because just there you know this was six weeks ago that I like studying this context. 00:10:22.285 --> 00:10:24.029 I'm like, wait, what is going on? 00:10:24.029 --> 00:10:34.607 Everything I thought and had I've been taught all these years, and then I just had to continue my study through it because right after that, like we. 00:10:34.989 --> 00:10:44.773 I start talking to somebody and he mentions in Matthew, chapter eight, and now in Matthew, matthew's fixing to write this. 00:10:44.773 --> 00:10:50.890 He says, uh, this was to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet Isaiah, that he took our illness and bore our disease. 00:10:50.890 --> 00:11:03.875 Now in Matthew, matthew is clearly speaking of healing, because he's talking about all the healings that Jesus has been doing, and he said that all of this was done to fulfill the scripture in Isaiah. 00:11:03.875 --> 00:11:07.764 So now Peter and Matthew are both going back to Isaiah's scripture. 00:11:07.764 --> 00:11:10.169 So here we are. 00:11:10.169 --> 00:11:10.812 We see this. 00:11:10.812 --> 00:11:16.143 Yes, the scripture that in the New Testament is talking about healing. 00:11:17.283 --> 00:11:37.672 So the two schools of thought that I have personally like wrestled with through the years is one is I was taught that by his stripes we have been healed, and so today, if I'm sick which I have been this weekend, thank God I'm actually talking to you because I've had a sinus infection, but I have already been healed. 00:11:37.672 --> 00:11:39.562 So what I'm feeling is nonsense. 00:11:39.562 --> 00:11:44.793 I'm not actually sick at all and I just need to claim my healing because I have been healed. 00:11:44.793 --> 00:11:52.923 Okay, well, that didn't work, for my son did it, because he has been healed, but I prayed and prayed and prayed and he didn't. 00:11:52.923 --> 00:11:55.517 So then whose fault is it? 00:11:55.517 --> 00:11:58.788 It must have been mine, because he was an innocent child. 00:11:58.788 --> 00:12:04.542 So if he's not healed, it was my own fault that I didn't pray enough. 00:12:04.542 --> 00:12:14.038 So see how dangerous that form of thinking can be. 00:12:14.038 --> 00:12:25.409 So then there's the other side that says that we are healed, but it's in God's timing, and so today I want to lead us in that direction, because that's what I feel like God has revealed to me. 00:12:26.350 --> 00:12:29.075 Years ago, there was when I lost my little boy. 00:12:29.075 --> 00:12:30.235 I was really mad at God. 00:12:30.235 --> 00:12:43.221 I was screaming and yelling at him, as you could expect, and I remember like when, at this moment, I was like crying out my wife's crying all the time, like I just didn't know what to do. 00:12:43.221 --> 00:12:45.206 We couldn't even go home because we couldn't be in the house. 00:12:45.206 --> 00:12:48.081 We sold our car even because I couldn't look in the back seat and not see him. 00:12:48.081 --> 00:12:51.466 So here we are and I'm like just mad all the time. 00:12:51.466 --> 00:13:05.212 Like God, you said that we have the ability to have healing here, you know, and I was in the thought process of have been healed, like it was a guarantee, like I have the right to have it. 00:13:05.212 --> 00:13:07.534 And so, god, why didn't you? 00:13:07.534 --> 00:13:15.106 And I felt like the Lord said, and like one of those moments in your life where you really hear a voice. 00:13:15.106 --> 00:13:19.476 I heard a whisper in my ear it was my right ear and he said I did heal him. 00:13:19.476 --> 00:13:35.813 That's the four words that helped carry me along to where I'm at today, 13 years later, and I remember I shared that with my wife, that word with my wife, and it was at that moment that we started to understand the peace that surpasses all understanding. 00:13:35.813 --> 00:13:46.417 It was that word that I got from the Lord that really helped us to start putting things back together and trying to live again without our little boy. 00:13:46.417 --> 00:13:46.517 Amen. 00:13:46.517 --> 00:13:55.090 So the scriptures that we read and that we're looking at, both Matthew and Peter are both quoting back to Isaiah. we are talking about the New Testament, not everyone in the New Testament got healed. 00:14:06.048 --> 00:14:07.927 I heard a couple of people talk to me about that. 00:14:07.927 --> 00:14:18.414 Not everybody did, and we see one written down by Paul when he's writing to Timothy in his second letter in chapter 4, verse 20. 00:14:18.414 --> 00:14:23.011 And he says that he left Trophimus in Miletus ill. 00:14:23.011 --> 00:14:29.669 He left him ill there, and do I think for a moment that Peter didn't pray for him to get healing. 00:14:29.669 --> 00:14:35.927 No, he absolutely got healed, like I mean that he did go pray for them. 00:14:35.927 --> 00:14:42.671 I'm sorry, he absolutely would pray for them to get healed, but for some reason Trophimus didn't get healed. 00:14:42.671 --> 00:14:49.585 And so he's telling Timothy hey, trophimus is still sick, he's there in Miletus, continue to pray for him. 00:14:53.899 --> 00:15:13.774 So just so you guys hear me today because I know that it can go back and forth here that I'm not in any way saying that healing does not come from the blood of Jesus on the cross, because I fully believe that the ability to have healing through the Holy Spirit is done only through Jesus when he died and rose from the grave. 00:15:13.774 --> 00:15:15.626 That's the only way it happens. 00:15:15.626 --> 00:15:22.005 Now, if I say something today this over the last number of weeks, I felt like the Lord expanded the revelation that I got way back then, and that's what I want to share with you today. 00:15:59.061 --> 00:16:10.072 It's super simple, but we really need to hear it, and it's this when we interpret the word of God, we have to look at it through the person's eyes who wrote it. 00:16:10.072 --> 00:16:12.493 Okay, it's the perspective. 00:16:12.493 --> 00:16:26.107 That's what matters when we're reading any scripture and when you're interpreting the word of God and you're reading it, you have to look at, like if we're looking at Matthew, we have to look at what Matthew's going through, what the world around him might've looked like. 00:16:26.107 --> 00:16:27.451 Was he, you know? 00:16:27.451 --> 00:16:31.996 Did he just go through something that really put him in a bad fog in his head? 00:16:31.996 --> 00:16:32.840 Did he go through something? 00:16:32.840 --> 00:16:34.186 Is he in a really happy time? daughters of the most high God, who adopted us through the salvation given through Jesus Christ, we are eternal beings. 00:17:37.212 --> 00:17:43.653 So all of these answers and promises in the Word of God are eternal promises. 00:17:43.653 --> 00:17:53.575 So when we look at this, we can't take this Word that God gave and try to put that into our timing. 00:17:54.760 --> 00:18:00.627 And then what God gave me was this picture Isaiah and Malachi both heard God. 00:18:00.627 --> 00:18:06.151 When God said I'm going to send Jesus and he's going to look like this and he's going to be wearing Okay, it might just be as I'm going to talk about on the seventh one, it's God's sovereignty. 00:20:59.259 --> 00:21:05.628 But there are some things in the Word of God that does point out why we may you've not made something right with somebody, you're holding a grudge towards somebody, you're upset, you're not forgiving Right now, as I'm saying that, you've got a thought in your head. certain sin that I'd been dealing with for many years. 00:25:49.983 --> 00:26:01.047 I had been asking God to forgive me many, many times, but I never went back to the first time and dealt with it
