pastor for probably close to 40 years. 00:00:54.240 --> 00:00:59.759 Um he passed away in 2014, and I miss him dearly. 00:00:59.759 --> 00:01:05.200 Uh, anyways, he was, like I said, a pastor, and he started a ministry. 00:01:05.200 --> 00:01:22.400 Uh, we because we lived up in the north woods of Michigan, and he had on his heart that he wanted to help other pastors, pastors that were burned out, that were hurting and discouraged. 00:01:22.400 --> 00:01:33.120 And he started this ministry called uh Shalom at Cherrystone, because where they lived was Cherry Stone Court. 00:01:33.120 --> 00:01:51.680 And I'm gonna get into shalom here very shortly, and I never really understood why he called it uh shalom at Cherrystone, but until I did the studying, I'm like, ah, that's why. 00:01:51.680 --> 00:02:00.319 So his favorite phrase when he said that was nothing broken, nothing missing. 00:02:00.319 --> 00:02:04.799 So he would share with the ministers that he was helping. 00:02:04.799 --> 00:02:08.000 It's like, listen, it's Jehovah Shalom. 00:02:08.000 --> 00:02:10.960 It's nothing missing, nothing broken. 00:02:10.960 --> 00:02:13.360 So Jehovah Shalom. 00:02:13.360 --> 00:02:21.599 Obviously, we all know Jehovah is Lord or God, and shalom relatively means peace. 00:02:21.599 --> 00:02:26.080 That's the English translation of shalom. 00:02:26.080 --> 00:02:27.759 It's very basic. 00:02:27.759 --> 00:02:34.560 Um, but it's more than that, it's so much more than that. 00:02:34.560 --> 00:02:46.800 So Jehovah Shalom together is the Lord is peace, and we find that for the first time and only time in God's word in Judges 6.24. 00:02:46.800 --> 00:02:54.319 So shalom is also a Jewish word used for greeting or farewell. 00:02:54.319 --> 00:03:07.280 It is also peace, the absence of war or conflict, um, peace of state of mind, a calmness, a calm, like the lake is calm, it's peaceful. 00:03:07.280 --> 00:03:12.800 But we're not going to talk about that tonight because that's not the real definition of shalom. 00:03:12.800 --> 00:03:18.400 The real definition of shalom is the biblical meaning of it. 00:03:18.400 --> 00:03:19.919 It's so much deeper. 00:03:19.919 --> 00:03:33.120 It encompasses wholeness, completeness, perfection, well-being, prosperity, and a state of all things being the way God created it to be. 00:03:33.120 --> 00:03:40.000 In 00:05:20.399 It's all whole, it's completed. 00:05:20.399 --> 00:05:29.040 So let's go into God's word and take a look at shalom in God's word. 00:05:29.040 --> 00:05:41.920 So the appearance of Jehovah's Shalom or a variation of it appears approximately a hundred and seventy times. 00:05:41.920 --> 00:06:02.879 Peace appears over four hundred times, and Jehovah is first appears in Genesis 2, 4, which says, These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that Jehovah God made earth and heavens. 00:06:02.879 --> 00:06:09.519 We all know that when God created earth and the heavens, it was perfect. 00:06:09.519 --> 00:06:13.279 Nothing missing, nothing broken. 00:06:13.279 --> 00:06:22.399 Jehovah Shalom is found once in the Bible, and that was located in, like I said earlier, Judges 6.24. 00:06:22.399 --> 00:06:34.720 And I I searched this for quite a bit, and then I had to stop because I wasn't really getting anywhere because every all the translations pretty much said the same thing. 00:06:34.720 --> 00:06:43.199 But the only translation that I found was the American Standard Version that actually said Jehovah Shalom. 00:06:43.199 --> 00:06:48.639 Every other version says the Lord is peace. 00:06:48.639 --> 00:07:29.680 But Gideon, much like some of us, when they hear God's calling or God tell him something, he's like, Yeah, I don't think so. 00:07:29.680 --> 00:07:30.639 Not me. 00:07:30.639 --> 00:07:32.240 Who am I? 00:07:32.240 --> 00:07:34.000 I'm I'm nobody. 00:07:34.000 --> 00:07:39.199 I I can't, I'm I'm the weakest the other chapters in Psalms that are like a hundred verses long, and this is a prayer from David, okay? 00:09:18.000 --> 00:09:33.120 So verse one, answer me when I call to you, O God who declares me innocent, free from my troubles, have mercy on me and hear my prayer. 00:09:33.120 --> 00:09:37.759 How long will your people ruin my reputation? 00:09:37.759 --> 00:09:41.279 How long will you make groundless accusations? 00:09:41.279 --> 00:09:45.279 How long will you continue to continue your lies? 00:09:45.279 --> 00:09:47.519 You can be sure of this. 00:09:47.519 --> 00:09:53.519 The Lord 00:10:47.279 How many of us know that David had a lot of enemies? 00:10:47.279 --> 00:11:00.000 Uh so verses three and five is a command to his enemies and also an encouragement to his followers to trust God instead of worldly desires. 00:11:00.000 --> 00:11:07.919 It's not about what we have or what we can do or what we're seeking, it's about what God has. 00:11:07.919 --> 00:11:16.159 Verses six through eight wraps up this prayer, declaring the peace and security found in God's presence. 00:11:16.159 --> 00:11:20.799 So David knew everything was going to be okay. 00:11:20.799 --> 00:11:36.879 Even though he had the enemies coming towards him, even though he was facing all the trials and the tribulations and everything that he was going through, he knew God had it. 00:11:36.879 translate this. 00:13:02.639 --> 00:13:15.440 Jehovah will keep in Shalom, Shalom, all who trust in Jehovah, all whose thoughts are fixed on Jehovah. 00:13:15.440 --> 00:13:21.759 Notice how Shalom is mentioned twice and Jehovah three times. 00:13:21.759 --> 00:13:28.639 Because perfect is a root word of shalom. 00:13:28.639 --> 00:13:32.159 And shalom means peace. 00:13:32.159 --> 00:13:43.279 So with that being said, it's perfect peace, nothing missing, nothing broken. 00:13:43.279 --> 00:13:48.240 You're gonna hear me say that over and over and over tonight. 00:13:48.240 --> 00:13:54.240 So I'm just forewarning you, that's probably about what, the tenth time I've said it. 00:13:54.240 --> 00:14:11.840 Um, but it's so important to know that that even though we face things, if our thoughts can walk through it and face the trials and the tribulations, knowing that Jehovah Shalom is with us, that we have that perfect peace, that we can go through it, that nothing is gonna be missing and real battle isn't against flesh and blood. 00:23:18.480 --> 00:23:25.519 The devil stirs relational conflict to destroy the image of God, reflected in healthy community. 00:23:25.519 --> 00:23:33.440 Effect, shalom between people breaks love, and unity are replaced by suspicion and bitterness. 00:23:33.440 --> 00:23:40.000 And we all know bitterness is a major, a major thing. 00:23:40.000 --> 00:23:42.000 Bitterness is not good. 00:23:42.000 --> 00:23:47.680 Number three, corruption of worship and purpose. 00:23:47.680 --> 00:23:58.720 Satan wants worship, not necessarily in the form of Number five, chaos and creation. 00:25:20.640 --> 00:25:34.960 Satan loves disorder, environmental destruction, moral decay, social corruption, because disorder mirrors his rebellion. 00:25:34.960 --> carelessness rule, it echoes the serpent's lie that we can define good and evil on our own terms. 00:25:58.000 --> 00:26:11.519 The effect, the harmony of God's word, the harmony of God's world is
