Show Notes

Islander Garrett Bennett is no stranger to those working in film.  His resume includes acting, directing, producing, editing for both film and stage. He started several theatre groups in Seattle and on Bainbridge, including the Seattle Annex Theatre and its smash hit Willy Wonka. He has studied in North Carolina and at the prestigious American Film Institute in LA, whose first class included such industry notables as Terrence Malick, David Lynch and Paul Schrader. One of Garrett's classmates at AFI was Todd Field, director of the current hit Tar, featuring a stunning performance by (and I'll call it now, she will win her third Oscar for best actress) Cate Blanchette. Garrett has a few stories to share about their time together and the road they each took to get to the here and now. I add a trivial one of my own.

Our conversation covers Garrett's productions on Bainbridge, A Farewell to Harry, A Relative Thing and A Good Car, his entry into the 24 Hour Festival, where intrepid storytellers have but a single day to script, shoot, cut and deliver their work.  A Good Car stars local Meredyth Yund who also starred in Garrett's A Relative Thing.

The buzz on Bainbridge over the last few years (known now as the Covid Years) has been about his work on the pilot for the series Rockaway. Those of us who have had the pleasure to drive a car, ride a bike or walk the few miles from the old Wycoff mill, past the titular beach with its museum quality houses and views of Seattle and up to Halls Hill, will instantly recognize the name of this upcoming series. There is plenty of information on the Rockawayseries. com website for you to enjoy - perhaps as you listen!

Please join us on our Bainbridge Film retrospective as we take a look at where we were - as well as where we'll go from here.
