HISTORIC LYNWOOD THEATRE PODCAST
EPISODE 128 with MARY LOU SANELLI
My guest today is author, speaker, dancer and teacher Mary Lou Sanelli. To provide the necessary background, I will quote from the back cover of her latest work, Every Little Thing, ‘Mary Lou Sanelli, author, speaker, and master dance teacher has published three previous works of nonfiction. Her first novel, The Star Struck Dance Studio of Yucca Springs, was published in 2019. Bella Likes to Try, her first children’s title will be published in the fall of 2021. For more information about her and her work visit. www.marylousanelli.com’.
The intro continues with Sanelli on-
Friendship: The simplest way to show support is to never come up dry in the optimism department.
Technology: Thank Goodness for Charles. He’d never let something as expansive as our friendship be dwarfed by something as small as a phone.
Covid: I am eating too much, thinking too much, drinking too much. That last sentence is not just an admission but an embarrassment.
Marriage: I know the truest thing about love, any love, is that both strong and delicate - a tension for two. I think: This is where I pull, This is where I release.
Writing: Most days I start off confident, but after I’ve put in the hours, I can start to feel like I’m losing it. And this always reminds me how fit my mental health has to be to repeatedly drive myself crazy with this.
Mary Lou spent over an hour with me in the studio this afternoon sharing tales of her family’s plight, coming from the horrors of WWII era Italy to the racism and intolerance of post-war America. After school in Boston she migrated West riding the silver dog from Port Authority, NY to the Emerald City. After stops in Port Townsend and Belltown she and her husband Larry dropped anchor on Bainbridge, where we met last summer here at the HLT. As soon as I found out of her many talents I set out to offer her a seat and a microphone to share some stories of life along the artistic and performance highway.
We invite you to spend an hour with us as we cover as broad a range of subjects as one can imagine. Literally, a discourse on Every Little Thing. And by the way, should you feel compelled to purchase your own signed copy of her wonderful collection of essays, there is only one copy left at Eagle Harbor Book Store. And we support local book stores, local authors and local movie houses that have been around since 1936. Do we not?
We do, and thank you Mary Lou.
