Between Two Worlds investigates the rising precarity in French society through the experiences of one woman in the northern port city of Caen. 1:46 TRT, 2:39 -1 aspect ratio.
Famed author Marianne Winckler (Juliette Binoche) goes undercover to investigate the exploitation of the working class in Northern France. She eventually lands a job as a cleaner on the cross-channel ferry and develops close connections with the other cleaning women, many of whom have extremely limited resources and income opportunities. As she learns more about the plight of these workers, Marianne struggles with her deception towards them and tries to rationalize that it's for the greater good.
Juliette Binoche is such a consummate actor that she can easily blend into an ensemble and still emerge the charismatic star. That’s exactly the task she has in Between Two Worlds, an absorbing French drama.
The sensational Talking Heads take the stage again almost 40 years after the debut of Jonathan Demme’s titillating live concert footage that revolutionized the music video genre. In the 2023 remastered anniversary issue we quickly see why the Heads were such fan faves. Led by front man David Byrne (who wrote books on both cycling and the business of music) the on-stage energy is nothing short of infectious. It’s like going to a concert and catching rocking pneumonia.
