Before we bid the Oscar frontrunner for several Academy Awards adieu, I would like to post nine solid reasons that support its magnificence, and one flimsy one, should you need any further inducement to view. Because at this point in its theatric run, literally a million words have sung its praises, as Chrissie Hyde might, had she opted to become a movie critic and not a Rock ’n Roll star (of the brightest magnitude).
1) It is important (sorry Gretta)
2) It is powerful (sorry MI17)
3) It contains, IMHO, the single most magical, textbook master class on how to create tension in one scene (sorry Francis Ford Coppola)
4) Cillian Murphy is phenomenal, masterful and ethereal (not that Matt Damon, Robert Downey Jr, Rami Malek, Dylan Arnold* and Florence Pugh are not)
5) Christopher Nolan (sorry Quintin)
6) The film follows faithfully the incredible tome American Prometheus by Kai Bird and Mark Sherwin.
7) The score is sublime (sorry Hans)
8) The more we know about this character and what we (USA) did to him, the better off we will be as voters. (Sorry - not sorry - Red Hats)
9) It is dynamite (pardon) from the historical, scientific, social, political and global perspective. (Sorry deniers)
10) It is as entertaining as it is didactic. (Unless you like your morals delivered by Teenage Mutant Turtles)

POPCORN PRIZE of the week: One large buttered (and a small Diet Pepsi) to anyone answering this question: Was J Robert Oppenheimer right?
Notes on The LESSON. From Bleeker St. 103 minutes and Rated R (for the usual reasons).
Liam, played by Daryl McCormick, an aspiring and ambitions young writer, eagerly accepts a tutoring position at the family estate of his idol, renowned author J.M. Sinclair, played by Academy Award nominee Richard. E. Grant (Can You Forgive Me?). But Liam soon realizes that he is ensnared in a web of family secrets, resentments and pending retributions. Sinclair, his wife Helene, Academy Award nominee July Depley (Before Midnight & Before Sunset) both in the Best Adapted Screenplay category, and their son Bertie, played by Stephan McMillan, all guard a dark past, one that threatens Liam’s future as well as their own. As the lines between master and protege blur, class, ambition and betrayal become a dangerous combination in this taut Neo-noir thriller.
Whew! Sounds like dark plot twists are on the horizon!
All for today folks. Thanks for your support over the terrific run of OPPENHEIMER, you did your part! See you all at the HLT. Zero would be nice.
Kevin
2.000 Miles by The Pretenders. “Aging is like being a pothead again”. Chrissie Hyde. My laugh out loud moment of the day. Cheers!
