There is January for ya! We know that time flies. But we have never been schooled on exactly how fast it flies. It seems to me that, lifting an attribute from the Man of Steel, that it is, at present, flying faster than a speeding bullet. Be that as it may, another lift, this time from Rowan & Martin, let’s ride into the smokey scarlet and black sky formerly known as the sunset, and into THE COMMENTARY.
COMPETE UNKNOWN. After a well-above-average three week run, we bid Bob adieu on Thursday night. Rather bittersweet inasmuch as the response from YOU, the people that count, has been staggeringly positive, utter of factly, in the forty screenings, thru yesterday, Sunday, I have only heard one less than glowing comment. One. And THAT was an “it was OK.” Not a “What a compete waste of two and a half hours”. Come see it while you can on the big screen. You will not regret it.
ALL WE IMAGINE AS LIGHT. Sensitive and deeply felt, three women from Mumbai confront the harsh realities and quotidian dailyness of modern Indian life. Palme d’ Or nom for film and winner for lead Payal Kapadia. One week only, because….
THE BRUTALIST. You saw how CONCLAVE and COMPLETE UNKNOWN were (almost completely) snubbed at the Golden Globes. Why? Because THE BRUTALIST was apparently head and shoulders above them winning Best Picture, Director and Actor. Drama, Bradley Corbet and Adrian Brody respectively. BIG news! The story is of a visionary architect and his family leaving post war Europe and settling in Pennsylvania, where is I befriended by a wealthy industrialist. Twists of fate, demons from the past and a split American society create the challenges, victories and heartbreaks enough for a three and a half hour epic, replete with an intermission. Did you know that BRUTALISM is actually a type of architecture? No? Take that as another reason to come find out. Starts Friday, Jan 24 and tickets are on-sale now!
