Thanks to all the families who came out to see SECRET LIFE OF PETS on Saturday. Honey Dog had some fun. Should you be interested in how YOU can sponsor a film and invite 230 of your closest friends - call me at the number below.
BLACK BAG. Now hear this: Black Bag is no mixed bag. Rather a tight and complex spy thriller taken from an almost flawless script and molded into a stylish, sexy and concise who-done-it, enough to cause Agatha Christie, Conan Doyle and Ian Fleming to weep. Director Soderburgh knows his way around a scene the way Jerry Garcia knew his way around free form lead progressions. You hear the crackle of electricity and feel the energy flow. It is that good.
THE PENGUIN LESSONS. Starring Oscar nominee (Philomena 2014) Steve Coogan, this poignant dramedy from director Peter Cattaneo follows an Englishman's personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history. Opens with a sneak preview on Thursday at 3:30, which would make a fine double feature, should you stay for:
KINTSUKUROI - One night only! THU MARCH 27 @ 6:30. Filmmaker Kerwin Berk will present his work telling a story we are all painfully familiar with here in the Northwest. Executive Order #9066 changed the lives of 120,000 Americans of Japanese ancestry who were, illegally many experts agree, rounded up and sent to detention centers. Writer and Director Berk will intro and host a Q&A after the screening. St Barnabas Church is co-sponsoring the event
World renown Jazz Trombone master, NAOMI MOON SIEGEL will bring her trio to the stage as a benefit performance for the BHS Band and Jazz Club on Friday, Mar 28. This one will sell out quick so get yer tix while they last.
The very next night, Mar 29 we’ve put together a pairing you will adore. Local Filmmaker extradonaire Rachel Noll James will host a screening of her first feature film INGRESS, co-hosted by ROLLING BAY WINERY, and Mr Alphonse De Klerk. Film and Wine, what a time.
THE BARN will host a special presentation on WOODWORKING on April 12 featuring a documentary on GEORGE NAKASHIMA. His Filmmaker nephew John will be in attendance to intro the film and host a Q & A to follow.
A screening of SKYMAN with filmmaker DAN MYRICK will open a discussion of UFOs co-hosted by MICHAEL BRIEN. April 6 @ 6:30
Local legend MINOR MORIARTY and his trio, FRANCIS NASH, will light it up on April 26, doors at 6, show at 7. With special guest.
Colleen Fisher will host RESCUED HEARTS doc on May 10.
TOWN HALL at the HLT. April 18, 19 & 20, we’ll screen the documentary WHITE with FEAR and follow that with a good old fashioned (and in vogue) TOWN HALL group discussion.
Thanks folks hope to see you soon at the HLT!
