I reserve the right to make any necessary changes to the second week of any film based upon the usual metrics.
I also reserve the right to comment herein on, well, anything loosely related to movies, music, art, literature, popular culture, sports, religion or politics. That should cover it. Please note that my comments on are not necessarily those of management, FAE, our sponsors, advertisers or vendors. Although they should be. That said, I would like to personally thank everyone who assisted in, arguably, the three most dynamically impressive evenings of entertainment at the HLT in decades. It was three days of magic with the WOW factor dialed to 11.
So thank you Kerwin Berk, David Kiyoshi Tom, Naomi Moon Siegal, Rachel and Sienna at Emergence Films and Alphonse de Klerk. Truly, we are all in this together.
THE PENGUIN LESSONS. Starring Oscar nominee (Philomena 2014) Steve Coogan, this poignant dramedy from director Peter Cattaneo (Full Monty) follows an Englishman's personal and political awakening after he adopts a penguin during a cataclysmic period in Argentine history (1977).
A screening of SKYMAN with filmmaker DAN MYRICK will open a discussion of UFOs co-hosted by MICHAEL BRIEN. April 6 @ 6:30. SKYMAN lead actors Michael Selle and Nicole Sweeney will also be on hand to answer your most outrageous and/or conspiratorial questions.
THE BARN will host a special presentation on Woodworking on April 12 featuring a documentary on GEORGE NAKASHIMA. His Filmmaker nephew John will be in attendance to intro the film and host a Q & A to follow. The legend of NAKASHIMA has local connections, historical significance and cultural relevancy. 6:30 on April 12. Pin it.
April 16 STEVE ROMEIN and his COMMON POWER coalition will host a screening of HANSON HOSSEIN’s latest doc AMERICAN DIGNITY at 6:45 which will include a panel discussion and talk-back. One show only and free to the public.
April 17, NEIL YOUNG’s latest doc, directed by wifey Darryl Hannah will center on his West Coast Tour, centered around the PCH tour.
April 18, 19, & 20 we will do double documentary duty with the screening of two powerful docs, mentioned AMERICAN DIGNITY and WHITE with FEAR. After both have been screened we’ll host an open mic in the attempt to answer the one question we all seem to be asking: What exactly do we do about all this? There will be guest speakers, politicos, lawyers and a cross section of the basic demographic of our lovely Island. I am banking on truth over power on these three nights of progressive discussion. Please join us.
Local legend MINOR MORIARITY and his trio, FRANCIS NASH, MIKE HOMMEL on drums and DAVE REES on bass, will light it up on April 26, doors at 6, show at 7. With special guest. Tickets on sale here and now.
Colleen Fisher will host RESCUED HEARTS doc on May 10.
