Serious and special thanks to the folks at THE BARN for all their help and hustle with the GEORGE NAKASHIMA event Saturday night. There wasn’t an empty seat in the house nor a soul uninspired by both the film and following commentary. I will say this with as much sincerity as I can draw upon, that one of, of not THE MAIN reason why I get such a large charge of humanity is in meeting new friends and mixing it up with the hyper creative types that hang around this old pile of bricks. There was electricity in the air Saturday night I appreciate and thank all in attendance for their high voltage positivity.
BOB TREVINO LIKES IT. You know how some films simply resonate like a tuning fork? The ones that vibrate something inside of you, something between your heart, brain and soul? Think for a minute about the ones that do that for you and try to draw conclusions as to why. Or how. Still maintaining a 98% rating at RT, this is the feel good flick of the year. And it’s gone Friday, so please hurry.
THE BALLAD OF WALLIS ISLAND. James Griffiths’ tender comedy-drama has a ton of heart, a generosity of spirit and an ultimately disarming sweetness that make it sneak up on you, cynicism be damned. PG-13. 1:39 and 8/10 at IMDB.
AMERICAN DIGNITY. This twenty minute short is the starter course for a power-packed run of political docs. And why not? Let’s not shy away from this folks, OUR COUNTRY IS UNDER SIEGE. From within. And we need to do something about it, stat. It often occurs to me that I am under programming our facility’s use as a community hub. Sure we try to provide the best films and entertainment possible, but there is always the glaring reality that one of the best ways to have our united voices heard is by gathering. We have 230 seats. It is my responsibility to fill them as often as possible. Let us watch, listen and learn. And then find a solution or two. On Wednesday night Steve Romein, Ty Cramer, David Domke and filmmaker Hanson Hosein will headline the post screening chat.
WHITE with FEAR. You can’t fight feelings with facts. White With Fear is like watching an avalanche form in slow motion, feeling helpless while it gathers enough rage to bury us all. From Fox News to MAGA, Nixon to Miller, this is a deeply disturbing reality check on our freedom, justice and belief in our Constitution. I will say it again, WE ARE UNDER SIEGE.
MARCIE’S. The latest from Seattle filmmaker John Helde. Storyline: Marcie has a dream: to own Ed's Tavern, where she's bartender and den mother to a devoted small-town community. But when a developer sets his sights on Ed's wooded land, Marcie's future is upended. As she rallies her people, she finds that an endangered bird may hold the key to preventing the loss of the tavern and saving her community. Cast & crew in attendance for Q&A.
All for today folks. Please be kind & wave that flag! Thank you.
Kevin
