We try our best to book acts that we feel will offer a great show for a rotating demographic, all the while keeping a keen eye on the bottom line. And by ‘rotating demographic’ I mean trying to book all styles of music for the changing demo of our Island. We’ve had Girl Bands (Fenderskirts), R&B (True Loves), Country (Josh Gibson) Punk (Civil Rebellion) Jazz (Eugeny Jones, Naomi Moon) Tribute Bands (Victims of Love, Batuka) Club Swing (Ranger & The Re-Arrangers, Pearl Django) Irish (Gothard Sisters) Rock (Kara Hess) Folk (Gypsy Soul) and Americana (Honey Moon). That is nearly the full spectrum of musical styles. We will re-schedule FRANCIS NASH, tentatively slated for Sept 20 as of today, tweak the peripherals, and try again. Because these guys are a legendary local band frankly kick-ass. They deserve to be heard. Final note: If you purchase tickets in advance and we move the show due to reasons cited above, you will get either: 100% of the ticket price refunded, or a voucher for entry into the re-scheduled show. There is zero risk on your end. Moral of the story: Buy tickets early.
Thanks to everyone who came out for MARCIE’S. It fills my heart with joy to watch professionals do their thing and then volunteer to talk about it with the audience afterwards. A double dose when the actors, cast and shooting locations are all local. Makes me remember why I like this place so much.
THE FRIEND. When a solitary NYC writer adopts and bonds with a Great Dane that belonged to a late friend, she begins to come to terms with her past and her own creative inner life. Naomi Watts and Bill Murray star along with a 150lb Grate Dane.
ONE TO ONE. JOHN & YOKO. With remixed concert audio produced by Sean Ono Lennon, the film features newly transferred and restored footage, as well as a wealth of previously unseen and unheard personal archives, such as phone calls and home movies recorded and filmed by John & Yoko themselves. “Built around the beautiful 16mm film footage of the only full-length concert John gave after leaving the Beatles, I hope the film will introduce the audience to a more intimate version of John & Yoko – while also reflecting their politically radical and experimental sides,” said Director Kevin McDonald. Rated R, 1:40.
RESCUED HEARTS. Colleen Fisher presents Part One of the Rescued Hearts doc. The beautifully filmed look at the magical relationship between man and horse will leave you wondering why we don’t nurture this miraculous bond more than we do. Even if you’ve never sat atop one of these noble animals, you will leave touched by their power and majesty. One day only, May 10 @ 4. See their site for details, and purchase tickets here.
Thanks,
Kevin
