THE FRIEND. A solitary NYC writer adopts and bonds with a Great Dane that belonged to a late friend, and begins to come to terms with her past and her own creative inner life. Naomi Watts and Bill Murray star along with Apollo, a scene-steeling 150lb Grate Dane.

ONE TO ONE. JOHN & YOKO. With remixed concert audio produced by Sean Ono Lennon, the film features newly transferred and restored footage, as well as a wealth of previously unseen and unheard personal archives.

RESCUED HEARTS. Colleen Fisher presents Part One of the Rescued Hearts doc. The beautifully filmed look at the magical relationship between man and horse will leave you wondering why we don’t nurture this miraculous bond more than we do. Even if you’ve never sat atop one of these noble animals, you will leave touched by their power and majesty. One day only, May 10 @ 4.

ON SWIFT HORSES.  Here is the cheat-sheet of allegorical tropes buried in shallow metaphorical graves beneath the parched post-war San Diego/Las Vegas landscape.

Hidden Lives and Secrets:
The prevalence of hidden lives and the lengths people go to in order to maintain secrets in a restrictive social climate.
Queer Love and Identity:
Exploration of same-sex relationships and the struggle for identity is a central theme, showcasing the challenges and joys of finding love and belonging.
Social Commentary:
A glimpse into the social and political landscape of 1950s America, with its anxieties and aspirations.
Individual Journeys:
The individual journeys of Muriel and Julius, exploring how their choices and experiences shape their lives and relationships. Two hours, R. Leave the kids at home and have a glass of Pinot Grigio.

MAY 28, JAPANESE HERITAGE NIGHT! With more local (and international) sponsors than I have the space to name here, Stephanie Reese presents a multi-media event as headliner for the week long series, featuring a presentation by Suyematsu Farms, a dance by UV Performing Arts and our screening of ONE FIGHTING IRISHMAN, all followed by a panel discussion with filmmaker Sharon Yamato, local Council member Clarence Moriwaki and Sam Omoto. 6-8 on the 28th.

It was truly a delight to witness the HS Jazz Band(s) host an open mic evening of music, poetry and fundraising Friday night. Not only was their music fantastically diverse, their entrepreneurial chops and control of what is normally a cacophony of chaos, was impressive. As well as emblematic of the importance of the arts, a graphic representation of why I detest the current fascist regime and their war on education. No dictator wants a well-informed, well educated, creative and free-thinking generation assuming the responsibilities of questioning the absolute control and power of an authoritarian dictatorship. Thx.
