COMMENTARY:
If it's a distraction you're looking for, go to BIC. Sorry to ruffle feathers but when our very democracy is a shout away from being extinct (and it is) I feel a patriotic obligation to act. To do something and speak out and to use this platform as a way to clearly state our objections to this hell. Bluntly, can we please just fast forward to the part where S. Miller takes his mistress into a bunker to share a forever chill pill? Your role model hero did and you are following his playbook. There is your final scene. On behalf of millions of Americans and every country save the ones that support, finance and cajole, I respectfully urge your consideration. Your Dear Leader was in the news last week chumming up to the Saudi's and the one despicable despot responsible for ordering the execution of journalist Jamal Khashoggi. The POTUS accepting bribes from global terrorists is a sick optic. That is how far we have come from Vladimir Putin ordering a hit on Anna Politkouskaya, the basis for the WORDS of WAR documentary/thriller.
JAPANESE HERITAGE NIGHT. May 28. Doors at 6, show at 6:30. Quite a lineup including songs, dance, guest speakers and the screening of the short doc, ONE FIGHTING IRISHMAN, a film about Wayne Collins, a San Francisco attorney who in 1945 represented over 9,000 Japanese-Americans who were incarcerated as a result of FDR\\'92s misguided EO 9066. And yes, he did all this pro bono. The filmmaker Sharon Yamato will join Clarence Moriwaki and Suyimatsu Farm on the stage for a post-screening talk-back. Tickets on=sale here and now.
RALLY FOR DEMOCRACY/STANDING TOGETHER BI. Local activists John Kydd and Mike Kelly have crafted together an impressive lineup of public officials, reps, NPO leaders, musicians and poets to help understand the current threat to our democracy and ACTIONS WE CAN ALL TAKE against the 500lb orange gorilla and his nazi henchmen. Entry is free. Bring your gumption, gravitas and grit. Noon on June 7.
FISH WAR. If you were around 45 years ago when Mt. St Helens blew her top, then you might have also been here in 1974 when a gaggle of racist politicians (Republicans) tried to steal fishing rights away from indigenous tribes of the NW. As if they hadn't stolen enough already. This, of course, was the proverbial last straw for the locals who mounted as fierce a counter coalition as imaginable to right this brazen wrong. FISH WAR is their story. 6:30 on June 8.
Lastly today, come on out on Father's Day morning for our FREE screening of THE SAINT. Local filmmaker Bobby Roe is hosting his annual tribute to cinema.
