COMMENTARY.
THE ACCOUNTANT2. The Italians, among their many sayings, have this one: “Ogni morte dei Papa”, its literal translation is the equivalent of our Once in a Blue Moon. That is what we get with the Affleck.Bernthal sequel, il Duce. Because it is very rare indeed (not to mention ironic) that this slick and textured action/thriller doubles as a heartwarming save-the-cat bro-com. I have said this several times since its open Friday night, Ben knows how to make movies. He is, as Christian Wolff, pound for pound as good as Jason Bourne. They both shared that one little DNA anomaly that turned them from normal to savants, and they both are fantastic filmmakers. And then there is the line dancing.
JANE AUSTEN WRECKED MY LIFE. A desperately single bookseller, lost in a fantasy world, finds herself forced to fulfill her dreams of becoming a writer in order to stop messing up her love life. All the reviews I scanned seemed to agree that this one is tres francias. If it is half as good as WALLIS ISLAND was English, I will be happy. Rated R, 1:38 runtime.
JAPANESE HERITAGE NIGHT. Lot’s happening here. A presentation from the Suyematsu Farm Legacy Alliance, a musical dance performance by Emma Ursu-Villareal from the UV Performing Arts, our screening of ONE FIGHTING IRISHMAN, and a panel talkback with director/creator Sharon Yamoto, Clarence Moriwaki and Sam Omoto. Quite a program with all proceeds going to Suyematsu Farm Alliance. Big HLT thanks to Stephanie Reese for coordinating this blockbuster cultural festival. Ticket’s here.
I urge you to take part in our RALLY FOR DEMOCRACY on June 7. It might already be too late to save our Democracy, but should that be the case, this event might be the first step in the next thousand as we plan the once unthinkable; Getting it back.
In 1974 Judge George Boldt restored treaty fishing rights to NW tribes. That was the good news, but the bad continues to this day. On June 8, FISH WAR film documents this pivotal period in our history and will screen, along with representation from the NW Treaty Tribes, The NW Fisheries Commission and The Suquamish Tribe. Doors at 6, film at 6:30.
Lastly today, on Father’s Day, June 15, in conjunction will Bobby Roe of Foreboding Studios, we’ll host a FREE screening of THE SAINT, paying homage to the body of cinematic work by the late, great Val Kilmer. Get your rounds in early as we’ll raise the holiday curtain on this one at 1000. Did I mention the free part?
Over, but not out.
