COMMENTARY.

I do love it when a plan comes together. Yesterday, FATHER’S DAY (and the day after my nephews graduation from the UW) was a perfect example of the powerful trio of art, commerce and community. Ace Island filmmaker Bobby Roe, local celebrity craft brewers BAINBRIDGE BREWING and our humble one-screen art house theatre, teamed up for a celebration of Dads, Grads and all things cinematically magical. Starring Val Kilmer of course. Bravo Zulu’s to the party goers, let’s do it again, soon.

THE PHOENICIAN SCHEME. Every time I sneak in for a peek of Wes Anderson’s latest kaleidoscopic hyper-geometric master class on set design, I am awed by his genius. Staging, composition and sublimely purposeful dialogue make it as entertaining an E ticket ride as Walt Disney could ever imagine. He captures peak visual syntax and clever  emotional exchange for an hour and a half, something lessor directors might get with one or two scenes. Truly phenomenal. Am I right Zsa Zsa?

Cannot wait to see Mike Flanagan's spin on the Steven King novella, THE LIFE OF CHUCK. The trailer is a feel-good rocker. Starts Friday the 20th.

TUESDAY, JULY 1 @ 6:30 is our second screening of the world famous documentary of the Beer from Here. Two hours of frothy advertising genius shot from 1974 - 2022. The golden age of Seattle’s Rainier Beeeeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrrrr. Tix o/s now. Better get 6.
