HLT 152 - GARY RYDSTROM

Kevin Lynch Season 4 Episode 152

7 Oscars. 35 wins. 76 nominations. If anyone is deserving of a lifetime achievement award for post-production sound design it is our guest today, Gary Rydstrom (RIDE-strom). From the upper-mid burbs of Chicago and Iowa to the USC School of Cinema and TV, around the world with a microphone and eventually to Bainbridge Island, Gary has Industry stories to tell and delivers them with an intensity and passion that makes him the perfect guest for our show. Here is a PARTIAL list of films on which he has toiled:

SAVING PRIVATE RYAN
TITANIC
JURASSIC PARK
TERMINATOR 2
MINORITY REPORT
THE FABELMANS
TOP GUN- MAVERICK
INDIANA JONES
STAR WARS

He is also an author, chronicling his experiences and deep understanding of the film industry, with “The Endless End of Cinema - A History of Crisis and Survival in Hollywood,” a scholarly work which I highly recommend to any movie lover or cinema aficionado. It is available here.

Gary, along with Steve Stolee and I, are the architects behind our latest fund-raising scheme, not to be confused with at the Phoenician Scheme, which is currently playing, that offers seats in our auditorium for sale. You will be hearing plenty about this in the upcoming months, but I am taking an ‘everything, everywhere’ approach to its marketing so here is the link. Thanks to Gary and Steve for their guidance and creative input.

This is one of those rare ‘casts where time flys by, and before you realize it, an hour is spent, and one wishes there was a part two in the works. And from the good news department, there is.

Please stand by. And enjoy these precious tales from the trades from Gary as he shares them with us.

Got a question about our BIG SEAT SALE? Have a question for Gary? Do you know Steven Spielberg? Do you want to watch the 50th Anniversary re-release of JAWS this summer? These and all other questions will be dutifully answered by one of our staffers, not AI, by calling us at 206.451.4336 or sending an email to Kevin@Farawayentertainment.com.

Thanks again Gary for taking the time to chat with us today.

Hasta la vista Baby.
