HLT# 154 - LUCY VRACIN & PAULA HOLMES-EBER - WE THE PEOPLE RIDE

My pair of guests today represent the top end of the social spectrum upon which I am deeply focused. Lucia Vracin and Paula Holmes- Eber are genuinely making a positive statement in a world ruthlessly obsessed with darkness and hatred. Their passionate areas of concern, equal rights, environmental protections, adventure travel and the freedom to do so, strike a sympathetic cord in my belief system, making it a true pleasure to spend an hour exchanging notes and sharing stories of the road. And this is certainly the road less traveled. Lucy is the area representative for WE THE PEOPLE RIDE - COMMON VOTE,  A Minnesota based national grass-roots organization whose tag-line grabs me by the soul like being connected to jumper cables.  “The common good is the alternative to MAGA Trumpism. This is a time to stand up for our neighbors, to reach out to those in our lives who know this is wrong, and to rally together for the common good”. Ya with is so far? The powerhouse leader of this righteous rebellion is a pastor named Doug Pagitt. He and crew will be here on Sept 14, to screen their film on an epic bike ride from San Diego to St Augustine, designed to raise awareness of what, exactly, is going on along our Southern border. Paula Holmes-Eber is no stranger to long distance biking, having circumnavigated the GLOBE and authored her book BREATHTAKING, along with her hubby and two daughters to promote, among other altruistic causes, asthma awareness, ecology, social unity and adventure cycling. A Ph.D in anthropology, Paula has just recently stepped down from her presidency of Squeaky Wheels, our very own bicycle advocacy group, who today happens to be sponsoring the joyous Bike for Pie ride on the Island.
