It’s Fall!!!!! This is one of my favorite things (the thing not the song), Saturday, Sept 20 was the answer to the question, “If you screen (or stage) it, will they come?” Unequivocally, yes. You, the collective you, you the community, we, us, everyone (it seemed) came out for our free homage to Robert Redford at noon and then for the nightcap stellar performance by FRANCIS NASH. To say that is was a wild one would underestimate the power and rockin’ local vibe that Minor, Mike and Dave, plus a stunning opening set by JOHN BUTLER, gifted to us all. The Pusher and Cold Turkey on the same set list is 24 carrot solid gold. We will have them back.
DOWNTON ABBEY. Basking in the glory of six successful seasons and a pair of episodic features, DA, actually Highclere Castle in Newbury, roughly 100K west of London, remains staggeringly popular. Its debut here was excellent and everyone seemed pleased with the plight of the Crowleys. I will simply say that it is not my cup of Earl Grey, and all the lumps in Oxford can’t sweeten my distaste for “Royalty”. Over egg the pudding, if you ask me.
GIRL CLIMBER. Equal parts gripping survival story and intimate portrait, GIRL CLIMBER isn't just about breaking records, it's about breaking barriers. Emily Harrington starts in this rock-solid (9.5 at IMDB) afternoon feature. Convince your friends to join you and come be inspired. With co-sponsorship by Insight Climbing of Coppertop fame.
ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. Paul Thomas Anderson takes no cinematic prisoners. Punch drunk on Boogie Nights There Will be Blood on your Licorice Pizza. We’ve been running the trailer for a couple of weeks, and from that alone I can tell you, that this IS my cup of tea. Viva la reveluzione! This from IndiWire sums it up: A propulsive, hilarious, and overwhelmingly tender paranoid comedy-thriller car chase blockbuster whatever, PTA's $~150 million Leonardo DiCaprio epic is the first movie of its size to accurately crystallize how insane it feels to be alive right now. Editor: There is nothing whatever about OBAA!
OTHER SIDE. A terminally ill woman's groundbreaking legal battle opens doors for out-of-state residents seeking Vermont's medical aid in dying, as she navigates her own end-of-life journey. With guest speakers for Q&A, including Danielle at Edge Walking.
All for today folks, thanks again for your support. When kids, now adults with kids, come into the theatre to watch a show or concert and we spend five minutes talking about the way the Island was in the 80’s, it reinforces my commitment to community service. And that is a two way street I hope to traverse many more times before the final curtain. Thank you again, sincerely.
Ciao,
Kevin
