Calling Elvis - Is anybody home?
Tahoma sized thanks to everyone who came out to gawk at DOWNTON ABBEY. It became, as a result of your participation, the best (biggest box) two-week run of 2025, and for that we echo appreciation. It always reinforces my faith in the Industry when applause accompanies the credit crawl - even if golf claps. Sunday’s screening and panel discussion (filmmakers from Vermont and Colorado) of OTHER SIDE, was both well received and attended. I was among the many who left inspired by the potential of this group of altruistic caregivers. This is a hot topic, another of the major social issues totalitarian capitalists have commandeered for profit. Dying is expensive. And the Lynda’s Phone concept is solid gold, calling Elvis, anybody home?
ONE BATTLE AFTER ANOTHER. It is already being hailed as the best film of the year and a sure-thing Oscar contender. Connecting the Thomas Pynchon…Paul Thomas Anderson…Leo DiCaprio…Sean Penn…Chase Infinity…Paul Greenwood dots create a roadmap for cinematic adventure. Toss in VistaVision format and the screen becomes bigger than life. Magical how the space/time dynamic and combination of talent makes two hours and forty-one minutes feels like a deep REM catnap. Literally every scene scores.
ELEANOR THE GREAT. Surely our core demographic will recall last years minor sensation THELMA, portrayed by the darling June Squibb. June is back as Eleanor, a holocaust survivor - or perhaps not. A morality play on stolen valor set in the kitchen of loneliness crossing generational lines and serving complex metaphysical entrees as food for thought. Your plate is very hot.
A bit of behind the scenes news, leaks if you will, on current projects. We, the collective creative community headquartered at the HLT, are doing a short film, a modernization of the think-tank cult classic POWERS OF TEN. Currently in pre-production we hope for a late 2026 release. You know where. FX designers, composers and, natch, financial contributors (aka executive producers) are encouraged to make contact for details. The award-winning feature length documentary UP FROM THE STREETS, written and directed by locals Michael and Cicilia Murphy, is on tap for a combo weekend, the Friday night screening of the film, with intro and Q&A, followed by the Sat night Live Music with the legendary LADY A big band. How is that for a NOLA themed double-dip? EMERGENCE FILMS, will host the second in their film series, screening BREAKING WAVES on Oct 16 @ 7p.
All for today, call me anytime at 206.451.4336, shoot an e to Kevin@Farawayentertainment.com or stop by at your convenience to discuss how to bring your dream to life, because you are the beneficiary of our daily dealings with One Battle after Another. Love ya.
