ELEANOR THE GREAT. Surely you will recall last years minor sensation THELMA, portrayed by the darling June Squibb, as well as her Oscar nominated role in 2022’s NEBRASKA. June is back as the titular lead in ScarJo’s directorial debut. And it has the national critics in a panty twist. Mostly because the elephant in the room has either been tortured into starvation or force-fed into a gluttonous fraud, whichever reviewer you might ask. The trailer leaves us cold like reading a Chinese menu in the snow. Opens Friday.

Local South Ward candidate MIKE NELSON will hold a town hall type meet-up at Noon on Sunday in the hopes of manufacturing enough consent to get him elected to City Council. Free admission for upgrading yourself on the candidates and issues. Popcorn however, is not.

MY OMAHA. On the subject of Political Science, MY OMAHA is a full-length documentary on a young journalist’s look at his hometown where he comes to grips with his MAGA Dad, who during the filming is diagnosed with cancer, and the hushed-up and generally ignored reality of systemic racism brewing on the North Side of Town. A refreshing look at objective filmmaking in this sometimes uncomfortable bio-doc. with IRL Movie Club. There are some important and striking similarities here, two screenings only on Sunday, the 12th. $7.50 is a bargain for the experience.

THE ONION: BAD PEDOPHILE. At ‘press-time’ here I await official confirmation that we have the green light to screen this important look at the life and sick times of Jeffrey Epstein, as told by the folks at THE ONION.  ED: This screening has been postponed.

We are doing a short film, a modernization of the think-tank cult classic POWERS OF TEN.  FX designers, animators, composers and, natch, financial contributors (aka executive producers) are encouraged to make contact for details. The award-winning feature length documentary UP FROM THE STREETS, written and directed by locals Michael and Cicilia Murphy, is on tap for a combo weekend, the Friday night screening of the film, with intro and Q&A, followed by the Sat night Live Music with the legendary LADY A big band. How is that for a NOLA themed double-dip? We are confirmed for Jan 9&10. EMERGENCE FILMS, will host the second in their film series, screening BREAKING WAVES on Oct 16 @ 7p. And lastly, two of our faves are inked for returns in 2026. TRUE LOVES on Feb 21 and VICTIMS OF LOVE on March 28. Where LOVE is thematic! Ticket info coming soon.
